Survey re Mass times in the Cluster Parishes
This will take place on the last weekend of Nov, and will go something like this:” in the light of declining numbers of priests in our pastoral area, and in the event of Masses having to be reduced, which Mass should be retained in this Church?”
Again, “if there were to be a re-organisation of weekend Masses in our Parishes, would you like to have a Sun eve Mass in a central place (e.g. Ferbane)? If so, what would be the most suitable time for such a Mass (6, 6.30, 7.or 7.30PM)?
¨¨¨¨
We are planning to have a Family Mass in Shannonbridge Church, in conjunction with the St V.de Paul Society on Sun 7th Dec @ 12noon.  All families are welcome.  It would be appreciated if each child could donate a small wrapped Christmas gift, labelled “boy”, or “girl” and the age for which it is suitable.  A member of the SVdeP will be present to collect the gifts.  This offers us all an opportunity to give to a child in need, & your support is greatly appreciated.

Being Thankful . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Brett Blair,
"Our ancestors were not so much thankful for something as they were thankful in something. In bounty or in want they were thankful. In feast or in famine they were thankful. In joy or in misery they were thankful. There is a big difference between being thankful for things and being thankful in all things."

"‘I must do something’ will solve more problems than to say ‘Something must be done.’"    (Anon)

Erma Bombeck was known for her humorous journalism, frequently seasoned with bits of wisdom. In her column on March  1987, Erma wrote:
Words of encouragement with butterfly"I always had a dream that when I am asked to give an accounting of my life to a higher court, it will go like this: ‘So, empty your pockets. What have you got left of your life? Any dreams that were unfulfilled? Any unused talents that we gave you when you were born left? Any unsaid compliments or bits of love that you haven’t spread around?’"And I will answer, ‘I’ve nothing to return. I spent everything you gave me. I am as naked as the day I was born.’"Do you still have some encouragement that you haven’t spread around? Do you have ability you have not used up? Do you still have some bits of love to share?"
"If you were asked to empty your pockets today, will you find them half-full? Or will you discover that you have joyously spent everything you were given?"

ST. MEL’S CATHEDRAL UPDATE
“It is with great joy that we anticipate having St. Mel’s Cathedral back as our place of worship at Christmas time. We are indebted to the many people who have worked tirelessly to restore the Cathedral after the devastating fire of Christmas 2009.
Two of the Christmas Masses will be broadcast with the wider public, courtesy of RTE Television; Midnight Mass and the 10am Mass on Christmas morning will be televised.  Seating for all Masses will be on a first come first served basis.”

Something to ponder
The story is told of a mother who wanted to convince her son to stop eating sugar. When all failed, she walked a long journey with him in the searing heat to visit his hero, Mahatma Gandhi, whom she believed would succeed in persuading him.  Gandhi thought for a moment, and then told mother and son to return in three days.  When they did, he simply said to the boy ‘Sugar is bad for you. Stop eating it.’  The mother enquired, ‘But Bapu, why could you not have said that three days ago?’ ‘Because’, replied Gandhi, ‘three days ago I, too, was addicted to sugar.’
