Questions people ask Q. Was there any message from Our Lady to the visionaries at Knock? A. No words were spoken but the silent vision contained a most profound message. Mary is not at the focal point of the vision but she is drawing our attention to the lamb standing on the altar, beneath the cross. Between Mary and the altar, Saint John holds open the book of scripture, representing the liturgy of the word at the start of Mass. The surrounding angels are a reminder that at Mass we are already participating in the perfect glorification of the Father. The message of Knock is to contemplate the wonder of the Mass. (Fr O’Flynn – Intercom)

Novena to Our Lady continues each day in Knock, until 21st August with devotions @ 3pm & 8pm.

Shannonbridge GAA Club

Intermediate Football Championship.
Shannonbridge put in a good team performance to get their campaign back on track, with a six point win over Birr, in Cloghan, on Friday last. Playing with the aid of a diagonal breeze, Declan Kelly opened the scoring with a point from a Paul Deeley pass. Birr equalised in the fourth minute and as Shannonbridge set about increasing their lead a couple of Birr attacks brought smart saves from Liam Griffin. Shannonbridge scores followed from Kieran Kearns, Peadar Kelly, Philip Egan and three from Deeley to leave the interval score 0-8 to 0-2.
On the resumption, Shannonbridge raced into an eleven point lead by the tenth minute. However, a Birr revival saw them score 1-4 without reply, in a five minute spell, to close the gap to four points, with twelve minutes remaining. Their progress was stopped by a well taken goal from Harry Kearns and the game finished 1-13 to 1-7.
Team: L. Griffin, P. Moloney, N. Price, M. Darcy, P. Kelly (0-2), D. Corbett, S. Flannery, C. Killeen, J. Egan, P. Deeley (0-6), K. Kearns (1-2), P. Egan (0-1), W. Keena, D. Kelly (0-2), K. Flannery. Subs: T. Mahon and R. Ryan.

Congratulations.
Congratulations to our club chairman, Damien Brazil, on his appointment to referee the All Ireland Minor Football Semi-Final between Tipperary and Roscommon.

Shannonbridge GAA Club

Junior C Football Championship.
Shannonbridge suffered their first defeat of the campaign on Sunday, at Rath, going down to Drumcullen by 1-13 to 5-8. Half time saw Shannonbridge three points in arrears on a score of 1-8 to 3-5, with their scores coming from Anthony Kelly (0-6), John Guinan (1-1) and Adrian Kelly (0-1). Two quick goals, early in the second half, set Drumcullen up for a seven point win.
Team: C. Kelly, J. Deeley, K. Norton, M. Moloney, C. Kenny, E. Casey, J. Killeen, M. Carty, M. Kilduff (0-1), Anthony Kelly (0-9), A. Devery, J. Guinan (1-1), Adrian Kelly (0-2). Subs: M. Corbett, J. Quirke, L. Duffy.

Intermediate Football Championship.
No luck for Shannonbridge who lost to Ballyfore on Sunday, at Killurin, by a seven point margin.
Shannonbridge had slightly the better of a stop, start, first half, not aided by some inconsistent refereeing, and were leading at half time by four points to two, through Paul Deeley (0-3) and Willie Keena (0-1). A good shot for a goal, by Keena, was saved at the expense of a forty five, which Liam Griffin rattled of the upright. The loss of Rory O’Connor and Karol Kelly, who failed to start due to injury and of Darragh Corbett after twenty two minutes proved too much. Ballyfore drew level after eight minutes of the second half and ran out comfortable winners on a final score of 0-5 to 0-12.
Team: L. Griffin, P. Moloney, N. Price, M. Darcy, S. Flannery, D. Corbett, P. Kelly, J. Egan, C. Killeen, P. Deeley (0-4), K. Kearns, P. Egan, W. Keena (0-1), D. Kelly, K. Flannery. Subs: T. Mahon for D. Corbett, J. Ryan for D. Kelly, R. Ryan for P. Egan.

Best Wishes.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Willie Kelly, who is currently in hospital.

Questions people ask (Fr O’Flynn – Intercom)Q. Did St Peter really walk on water? It defies the laws of science. Or is this a sort of story for the sake of making a point? A. A miracle is some happening which goes beyond the normal laws of science. As far as I am concerned, it would not bother me if somebody could prove that Peter’s act never actually happened. What appeals to me in the story is the lesson that as long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus he could walk through the storm, but once he concentrated on the wild wind and billowing sea, he began to sink. But even then, the Lord stretched out a hand to save him. It is a story giving great encouragement

Something to ponder
‘Proper friends do not always agree with their friends, nor do they always disagree with them, but rather agree with them when they are reasonable and disagree with them when they are unreasonable. Direct speech is therefore the only responsibility of friendship.’ (Matteo Ricci SJ)
