Where 2 or 3 meet in my name I shall be there with them”

Eusebius, a 3rd century church father, offered the following prayer as instruction for his fellow Christians, especially during Lent.
"May I be no man's enemy, and may I be the friend of that which is eternal and abides. May I never quarrel with those nearest me: and if I do, may I be reconciled quickly. May I love, seek, and attain only that which is good. May I wish for all men's happiness and envy none. May I never rejoice in the ill-fortune of one who has wronged me. When I have done or said what is wrong, may I never wait for the rebuke of others, but always rebuke myself until I make amends. May I win no victory that harms either me or my opponent. May I reconcile friends who are angry with one another. May I never fail a friend who is in danger. When visiting those in grief may I be able by gentle and healing words to soften their pain. May I respect myself. May I always keep tame that which rages within me. May I accustom myself to be gentle, and never be angry with people because of circumstances. May I never discuss who is wicked and what wicked things he has done, but know good men and women  & follow in their footsteps."

Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes

Division Two League.

Shannonbridge secured their first league point with a draw against Durrow on a score of 2-7 each.  With the aid of a stiff breeze, Shannonbridge led by 2-5 to 0-2 at the break;  the goals coming from Peadar Kelly and Adrian Kelly and the points by Paul Deeley (3) and John Egan (2).  The second half was always going to be a defensive battle with Durrow scoring  from a penalty in the first minute.  Their second goal on twenty five minutes brought them level and they went ahead on two minutes later.  Paul Deeley levelled the scoring with a free with the last kick of the game.

Team: B. Rohan, J. Deeley, T. Mahon, M. O’Shea, K. Flannery, D. Corbett, M. Darcy, J. Egan (0-3), P. Maloney, R. McEvoy, P. Egan, P. Kelly (1-0), P. Deeley (0-4, frees), A. Kelly (1-0), M. Corbett.  Subs: G. Kelly, J. Darcy.

 TEMPERANCE SUNDAY

‘Proverbially, Ireland is a land that combines the smile and the tear.’  So said Pope Pius XII in 1956.  He went on to lament the fact that, as a result of intemperance, more tears were shed in Irish homes than ought to have been.
Many of us are only too well aware from painful, personal experience that the Pope’s observation was true.  Like every gift of God, alcohol is good.  It has its place in times of celebration and relaxation.  However, it is also a drug that can be devastating in its consequences.  What comes to us as a gift can be a curse for some, unless it is wisely used.                               (from a statement of the Irish Bishops)
