Questions people ask (Fr Silvester O’Flynn –Intercom)Q. When Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God was he referring to heaven or to life here on earth? A. The kingdom is the central theme of the mission of Jesus in the Gospels of Mark and Matthew. Sometimes it refers to life with God in heaven, sometimes to the church community, but most often to the establishment of God’s reign on earth, overcoming the power of evil in the world. Jesus began his mission with the proclamation that the kingdom of God is at hand. To that end he called people to repent and believe, that is, to leave wrongdoing behind and to follow his way.

Important Celebrations for 2012
Confirmation: 26th April; First Holy Communion: 19th May
Catholic Schools Week: 29th Jan -4th Feb
Eucharistic Congress: 10th -17th June
This is the 50th International Eucharistic Congress (IEC). Congresses take place every 4 years, and offer cultural & liturgical events, along with lectures & workshops to the faithful. The event will also be the 50th anniversary of the start of the 2nd Vatican Council. The theme for this Congress is “The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and one another.”
The logo entitled ‘People in communion with Christ’ is on our Parish Calendar. The design is based on the idea of people ‘from every nation, race, tribe & language’ (Rev,7:9) being drawn together in Communion as ‘One Body’ formed by faith in the person of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God and the sacrifice he made upon the cross.
The RDS will be the venue for the events from the 10th – 16th June, while the concluding Mass will be in Croke Park on Sun 17th June.

Questions people askQ. The Gospel of Mark will be used on Sundays this year. What should I look out for in Mark? A. Mark is a great storyteller with the gift of bringing the reader right into the heart of the action. You will read of Jesus establishing eye contact with people or reaching out to touch people. This is a great Gospel for the sort of meditation that asks you to put yourself into the scene and become part of the story. Mark moves the story forward at a great pace and develops a sense of drama. He presents Jesus as a victim of misunderstanding and rejection. It seems as if his mission was a failure as Jesus dies with a cry of desolation, ‘My God, why have you forsaken me.’ But just then, dramatic things happen and the Roman centurion declares Jesus to be the Son of God. There is a powerful message of hope in this portrait of Jesus in solidarity with those who suffer injustice, misunderstanding and rejection. (Fr O’Flynn – Intercom)

The one thing children wear out faster than shoes is parents.
(John Plump)

· As I understand it, heredity is what a man believes in until his son begins to act like a delinquent. (Presbyterian Life)

Thought for the New Year.
‘Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward toward the life that God intended for you…with grace, strength, courage, and confidence.’ (Og Mandino, p.53)
