Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes
Shannonbridge maintained their unbeaten record, defeating Clonbullogue, at the away venue, on Saturday. After Liam Duffy set up Philip Egan for the opening point, further points followed from Anthony and Adrian Kelly (2) before Clonbullogue equalised with their first goal on 13 minutes. A goal in the eighteenth minute by Anthony Kelly restored the advantage and a Philip Egan goal, on the stroke of half time, left the score 2-6 to 1-1.
Shannonbridge held their lead throughout the second half and wrapped the game up with two goals from Anthony Kelly, the first from a penalty, in the last five minutes. Final score; Shannonbridge 4-9; Clonbullogue 2-4.
Team: C. Kelly, C. Norton, K. Coughlan, J. Deeley, P. Moloney, C. Kenny, E. Casey, J. Killeen, P. Egan (1-1), Anthony Kelly (3-2), W. Keena (0-1), Adrian Kelly (0-2), L. Duffy, E. Egan (0-2), D. Corbett (0-1). Sub: G. Quirke.

A message from St Patrick – from his ‘Confessio’
Converted sinner, man of God: “I am Patrick, a sinner, most unlearned, the least of all the faithful, and utterly despised by many … But the Lord opened my unbelieving heart that I might at last remember my sins and be converted with all my heart to the Lord my God, who had regard for my abjection, and mercy on my youth and ignorance, and watched over me before I knew Him… comforted me as would a father his son. So I cannot be silent – nor should I be – about the great benefits and the great grace which the Lord has deigned to bestow upon me in the land of my captivity.” He was deeply grateful for the work of grace within him & what he was able to do for the people of Ireland

Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes
Shannonbridge overcame a six point half time deficit to draw with Doon 2-15 to 4-9 on Sunday. A bright start and a three point lead, with two Paul Deeley frees and a good point by Eddie Egan after being put through by Niall Price, disappeared when Doon scored three goals, the first in the eight minute. Shannonbridge fought back, helped by an Eddie Egan goal, to within two points when Doon hit their fourth goal, to leave the scores 1-7 to 4-4 at the break.
In a much improved second half, Shannonbridge scored the first three points and closed the gap to the minimum with a Trevor Mahon goal on twelve minutes. A Roger Ryan point levelled the match in the sixteenth minute. Three points each in the final quarter left the teams level at 2-15 to 4-9.
Team: D. Kelly, J. Deeley, P. Moloney, M. Darcy, S. Flannery, N. Price, W. Keena, P. Egan, J. Egan, T. Mahon (1-0), C. Flannery (0-2), A. Kelly, P. Kelly (0-1), E. Egan (1-4), P. Deeley (0-5). Subs: J. Ryan (0-1) for A. Kelly and R. Ryan (0-2) for T. Mahon.

Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes
Shannonbridge opened their league campaign with a spirited one point win over Raheen, in Geashill, on Friday night. In a good start, with the aid of the breeze, Shannoridge led by five points at the end of the first quarter. A highlight was a forty metre point by Roger Ryan after good approach work by Willie Keena and Adrian Kelly. However the concession of two goals before the interval left the half time score at 0-10 to 2-2. Half way through the second half Shannonbridge suffered a double blow with Raheen’s third goal, giving them a two point lead and the loss of Mark Carty through injury. Shannonbridge hit back with a goal, by Anthony Kelly, after 20 minutes. In a tight final ten minutes, Donal Corbett hit the winner four minutes from time. Final score Shannonbridge 1-13, Raheen 3-6.
Team: M. Deeley, E. Casey, K. Norton, J. Deeley, W. Keena, C. Kenny, P. Moloney, J. Killeen (0-3), M. Carty, Adrian Kelly, R. Ryan (0-3), Anthony Kelly(1-3), J. Guinan, D. Corbett (0-1), D. Kelly (0-3). Subs: C. Kelly, S. Kelly, M. Corbett, E. Keena.
Division Two League: Shannonbridge 0-6; Gracefield 1-6.
Shannonbridge lost to Gracefield, by a three point margin, at Shannonbridge, on Sunday. The home side were slow to start and at the interval Gracefield led by 0-5 to 0-1. Shannonbridge, who suffered the loss of Adrian Kelly and Harry Kearns each side of the half time break, upped their game in the second half scoring five points and were unlucky to see a late goal-bound effort from Peadar Kelly rebound off the crossbar.
Team: M. Deeley, M. Darcy, P. Moloney, J. Deeley, S. Flannery, N. Price, W. Keena (0-2), C. Killeen, P. Egan, T. Mahon, P. Deeley (0-2), K. Kearns(0-1), P. Kelly, K. Flannery (0-1), A. Kelly. Subs: E. Egan, R. Ryan.

Questions people ask (Fr O’Flynn – Intercom) Q. Wasn’t it very cruel of God to ask Abraham to kill his son in sacrifice? A. When you read further in the story, Abraham was instructed not to kill his son. The point of the story is that God does not want human sacrifice, making the Hebrew people different to the tribes around them who believed that their gods demanded the sacrifice of children. Abraham’s son was named Isaac, meaning the smile of God, prefiguring Jesus, the Beloved Son of God the Father. Just as Isaac carried the wood for the sacrificial fire on his shoulder, Jesus carried the wood of the cross on his shoulder.
