Mission Sun: Theme: To the Whole World
Mission is sharing. Christians are invited to support the work of missionaries in their efforts to bring the Gospel message of love to the whole world. People are asked to be as generous as possible in the Propagation of the Faith collection which will be sent in its entirety to a Young Church.

“What we do is less than a drop in the ocean;
But if it were missing, the ocean would lack something.”
(Mother Teresa)

A one-legged school teacher from Scotland came to J. Hudson Taylor to offer himself for service in China. “With only one leg, why do you think of going as a missionary?” Asked Taylor. “I do not see those with two legs going” replied George Scott. He was accepted.

October is Mission Month
We remember our own call to Mission, to build up the Body of Christ wherever we are. Everybody has some gift to offer in the service of others. If we fail, others will suffer in some way.
We both welcome those who come as strangers in our midst, and support those in our parish who struggle to bring about a caring and involved community based on Gospel values. Our common calling is to promote the message of Christ in word and deed, and 'to take a full, active and conscious participation' in the Liturgy.
For this reason we are always happy to hear from people who are willing to offer their services in the parish - to use their skills and talents for the good of others and the glory of God.
Many thanks to all those who are doing so already.

GAA News from Conor Killeen

Congratulations

Shannonbridge GAA club wish to congratulate Shane Killeen and his wife Sinead for the birth of their new born daughter Ciara.

Senior Hurling Final

While attending the Offaly senior hurling final last Sunday between Birr and Coolderry, I was sitting in the stand with a friend from outside the County and we were both astonished at the level of verbal abuse a small number of supporters in the stand were giving to match officials and players on the field.

There were a lot of Children in attendance as well as hundreds of other spectators who had to endure and listen to these supporters(both young men and women) as they hurled verbal abuse throughout the game.

There were similar scenes that were highlighted in Thurles this year when Clare goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald shipped serious abuse from Cork Fans from behind the goal.

These fans should be warned by Officals and if they continue, should be removed from the ground, there is no place for this in the GAA as Players and officials give up their free time and weekends to line out for their respective teams and should not be subject to this abuse from people who have probably never kicked or pucked a ball in their life.
