New Folklore Book.
A new book entitled "Death Customs in Rural Ireland (Traditional Funerary Rites in the Irish Midlands) was launched just before Christmas. This book has quite a local flavour, being based on the collected folklore of James Delaney and covering mostly South Roscommon, Westmeath , East Galway and Offaly, with particular reference to Clonmacnoise. It details the traditional rituals for deaths, wakes, funerals and burials and features information collected from such as Jack Connaughton (Bemont) Bill Egan (Clonfanlough) and Thomas Horan (Ballyduff).
The author is Anne Ridge, the publishers are Arlen House and the book is available from local bookshops at €15.00.
