The recent cold spell and frost at night tempted a number of people
to take part in a game of football on ice .They used the thick sheet
of ice on the Callows just upstream from the village.

Donald Guinan was mentioning that small birds during this type of
cold weather often die due to a lack of water.

That fire at Christmas in St.Mel's Cathedral in Longford turned out
to b e pretty bad with some millions of Euro damage
and stained glass windows and
artefacts such as St.Mel's Crozier lost forever. Bishop O Reilly
is determined to have the building restored.
