Questions people askQ. One of the corporal works of mercy is to bury the dead. Did Jesus contradict this when he said ‘Leave the dead to bury the dead’? How can the dead bury the dead?A. The context of this saying is important. Jesus is speaking of the undivided commitment required in those who are called to dedicate their lives to proclaiming the gospel in action or word. The person who receives this call is regarded as spiritually alive, whereas people lacking this enthusiasm are referred to as being dead. It is this undivided commitment which enables missionaries to leave home and family, painful though it may be.

dead bait to catch 20 pike in the 2 to 5lbs range.
>Niclas Price from Gort fished the Hot Water on 11/06 using

two lake boats with light engines and a friend for the task.

20 big perch.Aidan figured that the spoons used were too small
and attracted the perch. On the second day they had a total of
21 pike.Bait used was dead bait and spoons. All fish were returned
safely to the Shannon.Aidan found it very weedy in some deep
water.Aidan Kelly can be contacted at 087-7497024 if you
require the services of a Gillie. Both days fair weather.
>Dave Kemp and Steve Nell are on a coarse fishing break.
They did not record their catches but Steve told me that one
day Dave had seven skimmers with best about 1.5lbs.

Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes
Intermediate Football Championship
Shannonbridge 0-12 Kilclonfert 0-12
Shannonbridge snatched an unlikely draw from the jaws of defeat in O’Connor Park, Tullamore, on Saturday last when a pointed Anthony Kelly free, the last kick of the game, tied the scores at 0-12 each.
Shannonbridge started brightly and notched the first two points of the game from Anthony Kelly and Peadar Kelly. Kilclonfert got into their stride however and a very sloppy first half display culminated in an eight points to three deficit at the interval.
The ‘Bridge management needed to act fast and introduced goalkeeper Declan Kelly into the full forward line to add some potency. Liam Griffin replaced him in goal and his lengthy kick-outs were to prove an advantage to Shannonbridge in the second period.
It took the Shannonbridge a while to get going in the second half, but once they got into their stride, they gradually ate away at their opponent’s lead and five successive expertly taken scores from substitute Paul Deeley, Anthony Kelly and John Ryan saw them draw level at eleven points each. With the game going into injury time, a pointed free seemed enough to win the game for Kilclonfert, but a thirteen metre free, five minutes into injury time, allowed chief marksman Anthony Kelly to rescue the day for the ‘Bridge men.
Team: D Kelly, W Keena, T Mahon, M Darcy, D Turley, E Kelly, N Price, J Egan, J Ryan (0-1), P Maloney, K Kearns, P Kelly (0-1), K Flannery (0-1), A Kelly (0-5) & E Egan (0-1).
Subs: P Deely (0-3), L Griffin, C Kenny and S Flannery.

Community Alert
A well attended meeting was held in Clonfanlough Hall on Tuesday 8th June. Lots of work and research has been carried out by people since the last meeting, with regard to sourcing and pricing of materials for signage and organisation of table quiz. A big 'thank you' to all those involved. A table quiz has been organised to raise funds to pay for signage and other costs. The table quiz will be held in Killeens pub on Friday 18th June at 9:30pm. A table of four costs 20 euro. We look forward to your support on the night and in the future.
Community Alert is a community programme organised by voluntary groups in association with Muintir na Tire and An Garda Siochana.
What can you do?
- Get to know your neighbours, particularly those living alone. Call in and visit, run an errand - its the small things and the human contact that counts.
- Be Alert - if you see somebody acting suspiciously in your area call the Gardai
- Keep an eye on your property and that of your neighbours
- Be aware of other safety initiatives.
Play your part and make your community a safer place.
