 Q. How might I bring the Persons of the Blessed Trinity more into my prayer?

A. We use a cluster of small words called prepositions which indicate the position or relationship between objects or people, e.g., on, under, with, by, through, beside, over, etc. At Mass we go to the Father, through Jesus the Son (as our Mediator), with him (since he shared in our humanity) and in him (as members of the Body of which he is the Head), by the unifying power of the Holy Spirit. An ancient prayer is: Glory to the Father, through the Son, by the Holy Spirit. Pay attention to these little prepositions which express our relationship with each of the three divine persons.

Questions people ask:                                  (Fr O'Flynn - Intercom)

Q.     The Holy Spirit is called the Advocate and the Paraclete.

What do these names mean?

A.  Actually the two names are really the same, except that Paraclete is a Greek word, and Advocate is its Latin translation.

Advocatus literally means one called to your side.  In the legal world an advocate is one who pleads your case.  St John applied these names to both Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  These lovely names express the presence of God at our side in times of trouble.

Q. You wrote that Mass is a rehearsal of heaven. I have often meant to ask you to say more about what you meant.

A. It is only in the full beatific vision of God in heaven that the perfect praise of God can take place. The wonder of the Eucharist is that we are invited to ‘do this in memory of Jesus’, that is, to lift up our hearts in joining with him in his return to the Father through the door of death, into his resurrection and ascension. We offer all honour and glory to the Father through Jesus (as the Mediator between earth and heaven), with him (as brother in our humanity) and in him (as members of his Body). Therefore, what happens at Mass is an anticipation of the perfect praise which belongs to heaven.

Holy Humour!

A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!"
His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?
The son replied, "I do know!"
"Okay," said his father. "What does the Bible mean?"
"That's easy, Daddy..." the young boy replied excitedly," It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth..'

Sympathy.
The club extends sympathy to the Duffy family on the sudden loss of Pat. Pat was a great GAA supporter, in both hurling and football, at county and club level. For very many years Pat and Mai hardly ever missed a Shannonbridge game. He was especially proud that Johnny, Paddy and Joe all wore the club colours in various grades. May he rest in peace.

Questions people ask

Q. If the triumph of Jesus was complete at the Resurrection, what does the Ascension add to it?

A. The 40 days between Easter Sunday & Ascension Day represent a period of readjustment for the disciples.  They needed time to let go of the daily, physical presence of the Lord.  It was a period of further instruction when the Risen Lord appeared to them to show them how to recognise his presence in ways such as the breaking of bread (Eucharist), in the forgiveness of sins, and in the leadership of Peter.
