Questions people ask

Q. Is it possible to have faith in God without having faith in the Church?

A. There are many who have a deep love of the Bible and faith in God but they do not belong to the Catholic Church or to any other institutional Church. However, their faith is seriously lacking if they disregard what the Bible says about being members of the Body of Christ (1 Cor 12), the Church as the bride of Christ (Eph 5:25) or the Church as the pillar and ground of truth (1 Tim 3:15). The oldest document of the New Testament is Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians which refers to the community of faith, hope and love already in existence before a word of the New Testament was written. And who decided on which books should be in the Bible? The Church … in various synods and councils. There would be no New Testament without the Church community which produced it.

  YEAR OF FAITH

During this Year of Faith it is planned to have a pilgrimage- celebration centred on the Sacraments in 7 historical / religious sites across the 4 Cluster parishes of Clonmacnois, Cloghan/Banagher, Ferbane, and Ballinahown.  It is hoped to involve all groups in the Parishes, starting on Thurs 4th July, and continuing each Thurs @ 7.30pm.   Each parish will take responsibility for the pilgrimage- celebration at its own venue.  These locations will be selected in the coming days.  The concluding pilgrimage-celebration will be in Clonmacnois on Thurs 15th August, and the Sacramental theme will be the Blessed Eucharist.

On Education

"Education would be much more effective if its purpose was to ensure that by the time they leave school every boy and girl should know how much they do not know, and be imbued with a lifelong desire to know it."   (William Haley)

"To educate a man or woman in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society."                                                       (Theodore Roosevelt)
