Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes

Intermediate Football Championship.

Shannonbridge played well to secure their second win of the championship with victory over Rhode, at Killurin, on Sunday.  Playing with a slight wind advantage, Shannonbridge led by four points before Rhode opened their account in the eighteenth minute.  They added two more points to leave the halftime score at 0-4 to 0-3 and took the lead in the forty third minute 0-6 to 0-7.  The two match winning moments were a goal by Philip Egan, who drove the rebound to the net after the keeper had made a good save from his first shot and a penalty save from Donal Corbett with five minutes to go as Rhode, three points adrift, stormed forward in search of the equaliser.  Final score 1-8 to 0-8.

Team: Donal Corbett, S. Flannery, T. Mahon, P. Maloney (0-1), P. Kelly, N. Price (0-1), M. Darcy, J. Egan, K. Flannery (0-2), P. Deeley (0-4), P. Egan (1-0), C. Brazil, Darragh Corbett, E. Egan, A. Kelly. Subs: m. Corbett, R. McEvoy, K. Larkin.

"Character is not something you were born with and can’t change like your fingerprint. In fact, because you weren’t born with it, it is something that you must take responsibility for creating. I don’t believe that adversity by itself builds character and I certainly don’t think that success erodes it. Character is built by how you respond to what happens in your life. Whether it’s winning every game or losing every game. Getting rich or dealing with hard times. You build character out of certain qualities that you must create and diligently nurture within yourself."

Prayer for Choice of State in Life
“Lord, in your wisdom, you have given a task to each of us.
Lord, I ask you; pour your light into me,
So that I may know the way along which you will lead me.
Lord, what will you have me to do?
Take me by the hand, lead me; you see all things in the future.
Make known to me your will, and then give me the courage and strength to follow you.”

Words of Wisdom
‘Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.
By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused.
A conscience is what hurts when all your other parts feel so good.
Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast to the real world.

Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.’
