HALLOWE’EN  comes from the early name for Nov 1st, All Saints’ Day. This holyday remembers the Saints that are not honoured with a Feast Day. In the Celtic tradition Oíche Shamhna, was one of their four sacred feasts, remembering spirits of the dead. Our dead are part of the Communion of Saints and in November we particularly remember them
ALL SOULS Traditionally, on this day & especially during all of November, we visit a church or graveyard to pray for our dead.
Norms for Indulgences at the Commemoration of All Souls Indulgences may be gained by doing the following: From 12 o'clock on 1 November until midnight on 2 Nov., all who have a) confessed, b) received Communion c) prayed for the Pope's intentions (one Our Father and Hail Mary, or any other prayer of one's choice) can gain one plenary indulgence - applicable only to the souls of the departed - by visiting a church or oratory and there reciting one Our Father and the Apostle's Creed. From 1 - 8 November the faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence once per day - applicable only to the Holy Souls. Conditions a, b, c, above apply also.

MISSION SUNDAY COLLECTION Oct 22nd —reach out & spread the Joy
Today, Mission Sunday, Catholics all over the world have an opportunity to sow seeds of faith that are watered and nurtured throughout the year by World Missions Ireland, the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission. Through prayer and giving we can stand in solidarity with all our brothers and sisters overseas. Did you know that 40% of the Church around the world is missionary? That’s thousands of parishes which are too young or poor to support themselves. By sharing what we have with those in need we help build a worldwide Church which can reach out to people with the Gospel. Those who have never heard the message of Jesus are given the chance to experience the love of Christ and to know the support of our Church family. Today, on Mission Sunday, every person in every parish in every country where the Church is present, will be celebrating together and sharing what they have, no matter how little. It is the one Sunday in the year when Mass is celebrated exclusively for missionary activity.

SUNDAY 22nd OCTOBER   Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday. Every person in every parish in every country where the Church is present will be celebrating together and sharing what they have, no matter how little. It is the one Sunday in the year when the Mass is celebrated exclusively for missionary activity. Donations are collected at these worldwide Masses and they go to support churches, hospitals, schools and vocations in countries where the Church is new, young or poor. In offering our prayers, we join with missionaries everywhere in communion and compassion to support them in spreading the Good News, and by giving a donation we respond to Christ's call to feed the hungry and clothe the naked. Think about it…..
“Jesus was born in a borrowed manger. He preached from a borrowed boat. He entered Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey. He ate the Last Supper in a borrowed upper room. He was buried in a borrowed tomb. Now he asks to borrow the lives of Christians to reach the rest of the world. If we do not speak, then he is dumb and silent.” (Leighton Ford)
