27th SUNDAY OF THE YEAR
“He will lease the vineyard to other tenants”
The parable of the vineyard is “a Bible within a Bible”, presenting in veiled form the history of salvation. It’s a story of a God who is at once a trusting father, a patient mother and a just judge. The owner of the vineyard trusts the tenants to get on with the task of cultivating it. He shows immense patience by giving them chance after chance to respond to his appeal to produce a harvest. They don’t listen. In the end, his patience runs out and he gives the vineyard to other tenants. We are the tenants today. God give us ample opportunity to produce fruit, but there does come a moment of reckonging and those who have ears to hear should listen. True fruitfulness begins in the heart and mind, so we should heed the words of Paul in today’s Second Reading when he asks us to fill our minds with al that is true, noble and good. Thoughts are roots; words are leaves; actions are fruits.

EXPLORING ST. PAUL
I found this an excellent series from Boyle. in these 4 short videos presenters give an introduction to these scriptures which will help us make sense of the world of the early Church and how these readings can speak to us today. Available at www.galilee.ie/online-programmes/ Free of charge.Paul: Considering the man and his message (Dympna Mallon) Philippians: Paul's Joyful Letter. (Dr. Jessie Rogers). The Acts of the Apostles: a community of faith. (Philomena Clare). What Acts tells us about the women of the early Church. (Marian Mortell).
Saint Francis of Assisi, for our Animal Friends Heavenly Father, our human ties with our friends of other species is a wonderful and special gift from You. We now ask You to grant our special animal companions your Fatherly care and healing power to take away any suffering they have. Give us, their human friends, new understanding of our responsibilities to these creatures of Yours. They have trust in us as we have in You; our souls and theirs are on this earth together to give one another friendship, affection, and caring. Take our heartfelt prayers and fill Your ill or suffering animals with healing Light and strength to overcome whatever weakness of body they have. (Here mention the names of the animals needing prayer). Your goodness is turned upon every living thing and Your grace flows to all Your creatures. From our souls to theirs goodness flows, touching each of us with the reflection of Your love. Grant to our special animal companions long and healthy lives. Give them good relationships with us, and if You see fit to take them from us, help us to understand that they are not gone from us, but only drawing closer to You. Grant our prayer through the intercession of good St. Francis of Assisi, who honoured You through all Your creatures. Give him the power to watch over our animal friends until they are safely with You in eternity, where we some day hope to join them in giving You honour forever. Amen.
DAY FOR LIFE is celebrated annually as a day dedicated to raising awareness of the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. This year’s Day for Life it today 4 October and will focus on the theme: ‘Choose Life’. Please see a range of resources from the Bishops Conference on: www.catholicbishops.ie/2020/09/23/day-for-life2020-choose-life/ Copies of the Bishops' message are available at the entrance to the Church.
THE MISSION OF MY LIFE (J.H. NEWMAN) God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about.
