The Widows’ Mite
It is said that there are three types of giver: the grudge giver who says ‘I hate to give’; the duty giver who says ‘I have to give’; the thanks giver who says ‘I want to give’. The widow in today’s Gospel, who gave away all that she had, fits comfortably into the third category. Jesus noticed her quiet gesture and presented her to the ages as a pattern of generosity. Her unsung deed teaches us that the amount of the gift never matters so much as its cost to the giver. Real generosity gives until it hurts. Wealth is not determined by what you have accumulated, but by what you will give when a good deed needs to be done. It is the truly generous who are truly wise and it is the hand that gives that gathers. The little widow was wealthy beyond words.
Enter slowly, and with reverence, the golden autumnal woods,
and then, stopping beneath its vaulted sylvan sanctuary,
allow its burnished beauty of bronzed leaf,
polished nut, and, shining fruit to reflect deep
eternal richness of Divine generosity,
always gifting grace in each moment,
of Heaven’s harvesting, to breathe its blessing through you.
Then, accepting its annual invitation to stillness,
you will hear the slowing heartbeat of the earth
as she moves towards her yearned for yearly time of maternal meditation,
and feel her ever deepening breaths appear as mother-mists,
exhaled between branches slowly releasing leaf’s attachment
into wind’s wildness, beckoning you into the stillness that bears always the slow fruiting berry of prayer,
whose sweet taste is wisdom.
A Prayer of Remembrance
God, thank you for the special people in our lives whom we are remembering in a special way during the month of November. We thank you for being a compassionate God who walks with us in the our dark moments of grief and loneliness. We are thankful for all who continue to love and support us through our grief. Lord, continue to be a light for us, giving us hope, direction and courage. May we now live our lives treasuring the memories of those special people we have known and loved and help us to bring light and hope to others. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord, Amen.

World Mission Sunday - 24 October This year we will celebrate World Mission Sunday over the weekend of 24 October. Its theme ‘We Cannot Remain Silent - We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard (Acts 4 20)' is twofold. It is message of hope - Jesus Christ is risen and we cannot keep his love compassion and mercy to ourselves. It also challenges us to stand-up and speak on behalf of those whose voices are too small to be heard We all have the potential to be champions for those who are weaker For them we cannot remain silent All offerings and donations made for World Mission Sunday become part of the Holy Father's Universal Solidarity Fund. This Fund is essential not only for missionaries but for the future of the Church. It supports missionary activities in over 1,100 mission dioceses, mostly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. However, World Mission Sunday is far more than an appeal for financial help. Missionaries also need your spiritual support. On this universal celebration missionaries can take great strength in knowing that the faithful of the world are keeping them in their thoughts and prayers.

COP 26 Meeting in Glasgow. Pope Francis has appealed to decision makers who gather in Glasgow to “provide effective responses” to the ecological crisis and to “offer concrete hope” to future generations.
Pope Francis writes: It is worth repeating that each of us—whoever and wherever we may be—can play our own part in changing our collective response to the unprecedented threat of climate change and the degradation of our common home. I was impressed by something said by one of the scientists . He told us: If things continue as they are, in 50 years time my baby granddaughter will have to live in an unliveable world. “We cannot allow this to happen!”. It is essential that each of us be committed to this urgent change of direction, sustained by our own faith and spirituality.
