First Sunday of Advent Preparing for More

Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Matthew 24:42

Jesus lets loose a series of striking images here: floods carrying people away, a person being left behind while a co-worker is taken off, a thief breaking into a house. Jesus is not out to frighten us but to grab our attention. He knows how easy it is for us to sleepwalk and set ourselves on autopilot--even Christian autopilot--and take salvation for granted. The need to earn a living and maintain a reasonable degree of security can easily come to dominate our waking hours. So can planning our next holiday, preparing for the next social event or shopping for dinner. The demands and possibilities of our daily lives need our attention, but they are not the whole story. Advent reminds us to look beyond immediate concerns toward our eternal destiny. Prepare for Christmas, of course, but prepare for much more.

Lord, you came to offer us an eternal home, and you will come again. Help us to receive you with joy

 ADVENT WREATH –2

As we light the second candle on the Advent wreath, let's pray for the gift of faith...
-for the deepening of faith in those who have it...
-for the gift of faith for those who seek it...
-for the strengthening of faith in those who doubt...
-for those whose faith is shaken and broken...
-for the awakening of faith in those who desire its experience...
-for faith seeking understanding...
-for faith that leads to action...
-for peoples of all faiths and for people of no faith...
-for the harmony and unity of different faiths...

God, give me the faith I need to live, the faith I need to love, the faith I need to believe,
the faith I need to act,
the faith I need to go on...
the faith I need to speak,/ the faith I need to serve,
the faith I need to share, / the faith I need to be still, /the faith I need to pray…

God, give me faith in you,
faith in my neighbour
and faith in myself.

Amen.

Safeguarding Message - Advent 2022

The Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois has recently had an audit of its safeguarding

practices. I am pleased to report that the audit was very positive. I wish to thank all who assisted with the audit and all who assist in any way in ensuring that the best possible standards are met in relation to safeguarding young and vulnerable people in

our parishes. During this time of Advent we prepare to celebrate the birth of the Child Jesus. In the gift of his Son, God speaks to us of his boundless love for humanity. The coming of Jesus highlights for us the dignity and value of each child. May our church communities always emphasise

and respect that value by ensuring that children are kept safe in their church activities.

If anyone wishes to raise a concern or make a complaint in the diocese, I encourage you to contact the Designated (or Deputy) Liaison Person, Tusla or the Garda. People who are there to help if someone is hurting you or another child are:
