FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION

There in their presence He was transfigured.

The Bible recounts several powerful encounters with God on holy mountains. This is not surprising. The mountain carries a certain majesty and mystery. You get a different perspective from the heights. You see things in a different light. In the tranquility the veil falls from the eyes. In the presence of nature we are filled with feelings of wonder and gratitude. And so it was on Mount Tabor. Far from the surging crowds, divinity broke through. The border between heaven and earth appeared to fade for a brief period and Peter, James and John were blessed with a glimpse of eternity. The splendour of the experience made them cry out: “it is good for us to be here”. All was changed, changed utterly. The friends would never forget the moment. Its power would guide their way. We have here a comforting balm for the weary pilgrim. There is meaning just beneath the surface and there glory the end of the road. The Transfiguration is ultimately about vision. It is a call to see thing in a different light. It is confirmation of our faith.

The Earth As we see our forests burn, our air polluted, our ice-caps melting, earth’s resources diminishing, our temperatures hotting up and climate change the hot topic of the moment, reflect on the following piece: God says I am the strength of the rock, the iron in our blood I am the copper in the watercress, The calcium in your broccoli, The magnesium in your carrots. I am the dance of decaying leaves. I am the energy that produces the oak. I am the power behind the transformation of seeds. I am the hidden food of flowers, of plants, of trees. I am the worm aerating your soil. I am the activity of the microbe. I am the miracle of all growing things. I am the ice age splitting the rock. I am the cradle of the primrose. I am the source of all food. I am the health of wholesome food. I am the bond of shared food. I am who am in soil. (Author unknown)

For World Youth Day: We pray the World Youth Day in Lisbon will help young people to live and witness the Gospel in their own lives

Official Prayer for World Youth Day which concludes in Lisbon this Sunday Our Lady of the visitation, you who left in haste towards the mountain to meet Elizabeth, lead us also to meet all those who await us to deliver them the living Gospel: Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord! We will go in a hurry, with no distraction or delay, but with readiness and joy. We will go peacefully, because those who take Christ take peace, and well doing is the best wellbeing. Our Lady of the Visitation, with your inspiration, this World Youth Day will be the mutual celebration of the Christ we take, as You once did. Make it a time of testimony and sharing, fraternisation, and giving thanks, each of us looking for the others who always wait. With you, we will continue on this path of gathering, so that our world will gather as well, in fraternity, justice and peace. Help us, Our Lady of the Visitation, to bring Christ to everyone, obeying the Father, in the love of the Spirit!

WORDS OF THE WISE

If you wish to be rich—Give

If you wish to be poor—Grasp

If you wish abundance—Scatter

If you wish to be needy—Hoard

FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION

Jesus, the Beloved, walk down  the mountain with us and open our eyes to see you. Help us to  resist the urge to check out of our lives, to distract ourselves, to be addicted to being busy. Wake us up to the glory that is around us all the time. Amen

all around us all the time. Amen
