Shannonbridge Fishing Report … dated May 21st 2007.
The river level at Shannonbridge is 2.3 metres. Again there was lots of wind and occasional showers early in the week with sunshine yesterday and today. If you are fishing please record your catch in the Log Book.
On Sunday a local angler used his mobile phone to tell me that a non national had just caught a good tench at the Hot Water and had thrown it in a bucket. I reported it to the Fishery Inspector who promised to come along within 30 minutes.
Four Manchester anglers fished a Backwater on May 16th in windy conditions and used maggot and feeder. Gordon Barrett had good fishing catching 20 lbs of rudd tench and bream. Best tench was 4.5 lbs.
Dave Evans caught also caught a mixed bag of roach, tench, rudd, perch, bream and an eel. His best fish was a 4.75 lbs tench.
Paul and Bob Critchley had similar catches and Bob lost a good tench.
Steve Murphy and Malcolm Greaning from Actold, England used a boat to go pike fishing upstream of Shannonbridge using lures and spinners. They found that the stretch from Devenish Island to Clonmacnois was most productive with best pike of 10 lbs.
Austrian Marc Lungbauer from Feldkirch fished the Shannon from a cruiser and caught and released 21 pike. He is coming again next year.
Edwin Mulles from Speyes, Germany fished at Clonmacnois on 17th May in wind and rain using a dead fish to catch a pike 85 cm. Eaten for lunch same day.
Leith Maximilian from Alling on the same day fished the Shannon using wobblers to catch pike of 80 cm and 65 cm. Comment ‘perfect dinner’.
Chris Malton and Kevin Ord from Scarborough went fishing on a Backwater on May 17th. Chris used maggots to catch a 6 lb tench which was a personal best. Kevin used dead bait to land a good fighting 12 lbs pike.
Reusser Hanspeter from Switzerland fished from a cruiser on the Shannon and caught 20 pike in the week with best measuring 93 cm, and 87 cm .Using wobbler.
Joig Herdtle from Germany on May 14th caught four pike between 50 cm and 80 cm fishing with dead bait in the wind and rain. Total for week was 50 pike.
Giuy Petg from Switzerland fished the Shannon on a sunny May 20th and used a spinner to catch seven small pike from 9.00 am to 11.00 am.
George Stokes and friends from Walsall have arrived. On 20th May they fished a warm up on the Grand Canal. George used maggot to catch about 60 fish – roach, rudd and perch. His pal Moss Tindeslay caught 50 rudd while fishing on maggot. Today George fished on the Brosna in the sun and used casters with an open end feeder to catch hybrids to 1.5 lbs and roach to ¾ lb. No doubt he sang The Fields of Athenry to lure his fish.
Ralph Howard and three friends from Bambury are fishing a bay on the Shannon and on a sunny May 21st they used red maggot with a feeder to catch some lovely rudd and roach and hybrids. Paul Mills had a 35 lb bag that included eight rudd all over a pound and skimmers to a pound. Bill Lammill had a 27 lbs of the same while Ralph Howard caught 24 lbs and Tony Chard had a 29 lbs total. This was their second day on the same swims and they plan to continue there tomorrow.Where ?. On a bay on the Shannon.
