Mission Sunday: “Growing in Communion and Service”
Today, Mission Sunday, Catholics worldwide are asked to recommit themselves to mission, to the gospel message. Many people think of missionaries as those who travel to so-called developing countries and dedicate their lives to serving the poor and spreading the gospel. Today we pray especially for them but we also recommit ourselves to following the gospel message in prayer, in our daily lives, in our relationships with others and in sharing that message.
Can we be missionaries to our own families and to the people around us? That is one of the more challenging tasks in our society today.
People are asked to be as generous as usual in the Propagation of the Faith collection which will be sent in its entirety to a Young Church.

 Questions people ask
Q. Why should the Catholic Church be pushing its teaching, given all the scandals that have come to light?
A. Yes indeed, the uncovering of scandals is a massive obstacle in the promotion of the mission to preach the word of God to all nations. Mission begins with constant personal conversion by each one of us. But we should not be so blinded by the bad news that we fail to see all the goodness in the Church. Catholic missionaries have made the world a better place in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, in education, nursing, food aid, peacemaking and many other ways. May the Church never be short of courageous, generous people who respond to the call of Jesus Christ to bring his message and love to all nations.                                                                                           (Fr O’Flynn-Intercom)
