THE THIRTEENTH SUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME

Jesus said, “Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom of God”.

Mass times:- Shannonbridge, Saturday (Vigil), 8.00 p.m.; Weekdays, 10.00 a.m.  Clonfanlough, Sunday, 10.30 a.m.,  Thursday, 7.00 p.m.

Mass for the Intentions of the People of the Parish, Missa pro Populo, in Shannonbridge on Sunday 26th at 12.00 noon.

Mass is celebrated at Cluain Ciaráin Prayer Centre, on Wednesday evenings at 7.30.
A Healing Mass will be celebrated in the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, Athlone, on Thursday 30th, at 7.30 p.m.  Celebrant, Fr. Michele Barone, Naples, joined by Fr. Jim Candon O.P..  Individual blessing will be imparted afterwards.  All are welcome.  Further details from Kathleen O'Connor or Paul Woods, 087 782 8283.

Friday is the First Friday of July.  The Holy Communion calls to the sick and housebound will be made on Thursday.  Please note change of day.  Neighbours and carers are asked to inform those concerned.

The Revised Mass Schedule in the Pastoral Cluster Area comes into effect on Sunday next, 3rd July.  In the Parish of Clonmacnois:- Shannonbridge, Saturday (Vigil), 8.00 p.m.; Clonfanlough, Sunday, 10.30 a.m.  (12.00 noon Mass discontinued). 
   The proposal that the arrangement alternate between the two churches, on a six-monthly basis, has been discussed at cluster level.  It will not affect the operation of the timetable in adjoining parishes.
The new schedule includes Mass on Sunday, at 7.00 p.m., in St. Mary’s Church, Ferbane.  

Sunday 26th is the Feast of St. Josemaría Escrivá, 1902-1975, founded Opus Dei to promote the spread of the word of God throughout the world; canonised in 2002.
Monday 27th, St. Cyril of Alexandria, 370-444, Patriarch of Alexandria, defended the teaching that Mary is the Mother of God.
Tuesday 28th, St. Irenæus, 130-200, martyr, Bishop of Lyons in France, defended the faith against the Gnostics who proclaimed the dominance of evil.
Wednesday, 29th June, is the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles.  On the day traditionally observed in pagan Rome as the day of its foundation by Romulus and Remus we celebrate the feast of the twin founders of the Church in Rome.  St. Peter died by crucifixion and St. Paul, a Roman citizen, was beheaded between 64 and 67.
Thursday 30th is the Feast of the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome who died under the emperor Nero in the year 64.
Friday, 1st July, St. Oliver Plunkett, born at Loughcrew, Co. Meath, 1625; Archbishop of Armagh 1669, martyred at Tyburn, London, 1st July, 1681; canonised, 12th October, 1975.

The Altar Servers’ Tour takes place on Thursday 30th, to Lough Key Forest Park and the Boda Borg experience.  Servers should bring a picnic.  The bus leaves Shannonbridge at 8.30 a.m., stopping at the Ballyhearth Turn, 8.45 a.m., Ballinahown, 9.00 a.m.

Who Do You Say I Am?
It’s Peter who comes up with the answer to the Lord’s question.  “You are the Christ of God.”  That was it, straight and simple and clear.  Jesus does not entertain sitting on the fence.  He expects his followers to stand up and be counted.

Sunday 19th is the Feast of St. Romuald, Italian hermit and abbot, did much to reform the solitary life, died 1027.
Monday 20th, The Irish Martyrs, Irish men and women, clergy, religious and lay, put to death for the Catholic faith between 1579 and 1654.
Tuesday 21st, St. Aloysius Gonzaga, 1568-1591, Jesuit novice, native of Italy, who died of the fever while working in a plague hospital in Rome.  Patron of A.I.D.S. sufferers.
Wednesday 22nd, St. Paulinus of Nola, France, 355-431, married with one son, gave up all his worldly goods to enter monastic life, worked to relieve the misery of his time.
Wednesday 22nd, St. John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester, and St. Thomas More, Lord Chancellor of England; both martyred under Henry VIII in 1535.
Friday 24th is The Birthday of St. John the Baptist.  The name John means ‘the Lord has shown favour’.  It is appropriate since his parents Zechariah and Elizabeth were advanced in years.

Shannonbridge Active Retirement Association hold their Summer Social in Shannonbridge Hall on Friday 24th following Mass in the Church at 7.30 p.m.

Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes


Shannonbridge / Doon Lottery.
Last week’s numbers were 2, 14, 15 and 22.  There were five match three winners.  This week’s Jackpot will be €8,600.

Mass for the Intentions of the People of the Parish, Missa pro Populo, in Shannonbridge on Saturday 11th, at 8.00 p.m.
Mass is celebrated at Cluain Ciaráin Prayer Centre, on Wednesday evenings at 7.30.

Open Air Mass of the Holy Spirit and Pattern Prayers at Clonmacnois on Friday 17th, at 9.00 p.m., followed by Night Vigil with Eucharistic Adoration in Cluain Ciarán, concluding at 2.10 a.m. The Mass will be offered for suicide victims and affected families. All are welcome.

A One-Day Retreat will be conducted at Cluain Ciaráin on Saturday 18th, commencing 9.30 a.m. Under the auspices of the Ark Centre of Divine Mercy the retreat is facilitated by Frances Hogan (EWTN Eternal Television Network).   Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Saturday 11th is the Feast of St. Barnabas, Apostle, native of Cyprus, originally named Joseph, the apostles called him Barnabas which means 'son of encouragement'. He accompanied St. Paul on his missionary journeys.
Monday 13th, St. Anthony of Padua, 1195-1231, Franciscan, native of Portugal, preached against heresy. He is invoked in the search for lost items.
Tuesday 14th, St. Davnet, Monaghan; a staff, said to have been hers, has been preserved, and, in the past, was used as a test of truth.

The Relics of St. Anthony of Padua, the saint of lost things, will visit St. Mel’s Cathedral, Longford, on Tuesday 14th.
Mass at 1.00 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. 
Veneration of the relics until 8.00 p.m.

The Youth 2000 Summer Festival takes place at Cistercian College, Roscrea, from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th July. For young people, aged 16 to 35, an opportunity to experience the Catholic faith and meet many new people. Over 1,200 young people attended last year. Donation only.
