Shannonbridge Hallowe’en Party  in aid of Temple Street Hospital in Shannonbridge Hall tonight from 6-9p.m.
HALLOWE’EN comes from the early name for Nov 1st, All Saints’ Day. This holyday remembers the Saints that are not honoured with a Feast Day. In the Celtic tradition Oíche Shamhna, was one of their four sacred feasts, remembering spirits of the dead. Our dead are part of the Communion of Saints and in November we particularly remember them.
2nd November: All Souls Traditionally, on this day & especially during all of November, we visit a church or graveyard to pray for our dead. Norms for Indulgences at the Commemoration of All Souls From 12 noon on Nov 1st to midnight on Nov 2nd, all who have confessed, received Holy Communion and prayed for the Pope’s intentions (one Our Father & Holy Mary, or any other prayer of one’s choice), can gain one plenary indulgence by visiting a church or oratory, and there reciting one Our Father & the Apostle’s Creed. This indulgence is applicable only to the souls of the departed. Confession may be made any time within the week preceding or the week following Nov 1st.  The faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence applicable only to the Holy Souls on the usual conditions, once per day from Nov 1st to 8th. The conditions mentioned above, apply also for this.

 Today (Oct 23rd)is Mission Sunday.
It is the one day when we are specifically asked to dig into our hearts and minds and assist our   Church’s universal mission.
Our theme for this years’ Mission Sunday is ‘Every Christian is a Missionary’.  We all have the privilege of sharing God’s love and words with those who have not yet heard Him.
Pope Francis is an enthusiastic ‘promoter’ of this theme and is seeking to lead all of us in a joyful expression of our individual and unique missionary charism.     In his message for Mission Sunday the Pope says “As they travel through the streets of the world, the disciples of Jesus need to have a love without limits, the same measure of love that our Lord has for all people. We proclaim the most beautiful and greatest gifts that he has given us: his life and his love”.
The Irish missionary disciples need our spiritual and  financial help today. We have some 1,200 men and women working in all corners of the world, each playing his or her part on the missionary journey. Your financial help today is crucial to their work.  We can’t do it without you. Large or small, it makes a huge difference and we thank you sincerely for your help.

MISSION MONTH
Next Sunday (23rd)  is Mission Sunday, the annual worldwide Catholic celebration of mission in its fullest sense.
Pope Francis describes mission “As a passion for Jesus and a passion for his people”.
Our financial and spiritual help enables missionaries to breathe faith, hope and charity into the lives of people who need it most .Sharing the message and sharing financially with those in developing countries is our Christian duty.
Our prayers and financial offerings on Mission Sunday go towards supporting missionaries and their mission projects where the Church is new, young or poor.
A special collection using the brown “Propagation of the Faith” envelope in your box will be taken up next Sunday in aid of our brothers and sisters currently on mission, allowing them to continue their work.                                        www.wmi.ie

BOB DYLAN  NOBEL LAUREATE!
A representative of yours (Bob Dylan) has just said on your behalf that the answer to the questions of your life "is blowing in the wind". It is true! But not in the wind which blows everything away in empty whirls, but the wind which is the breath and voice of the Spirit, a voice that calls and says: "Come!"
You asked me: How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man? I answer you: one! There is only one road for man and it is Christ, who said: "I am the way" (John 14:6). He is the road of truth, the way of life." - Pope Saint John Paul II in Bologna 1997

Children love to know that they are important members of a global circle of praying, sharing and caring, in this, the Mission Month of October. They have generous hearts, missionary hearts, and so are open to the idea of including other little children in their thoughts.
