QUOTE The school will teach children how to read, but the environment of the home must teach them what to read. The school can teach them how to think, but the home must teach them what to believe. (Charles A. Wells)
Thank you for my children, Lord; I know they
are a gift from You. Daily I need Your
strength and wisdom to train them in the way
they should go. Give me patience and a joyful
heart; let me be an example of Your love and
forgiveness. Thank You, Father, for the
honour of being a parent. Amen
We always note the inaugural address of a leader, outlining, as it usually does, the vision of the new regime. Today we listen with special attention as Jesus delivers his first sermon in the synagogue in Capernaum. His mission will be different. He will have a special concern and care for the last, the least and the lost. During His public ministry, He
will put flesh on the words of that first sermon. He will touch the untouchable. He will invite the outsider in. He will welcome the sinner home. He will in short, proclaim the equal dignity of all God’s children. G.K. Chesterton, poet and writer used a
simple, everyday image to explain the heart of
Jesus’ mission: ‘People are equal in the same
way that pennies are equal. Some are bright;
others are dull; some are worn smooth;
others are sharp and fresh. But all are equal
in value, because each penny bears the image
of the sovereign, each person bears the
image of the King of Kings’.

FEBRUARY - The Feast of St. Brigid on the 1st
February begins the season of spring. Brigid is
renowned for her hospitality, almsgiving and care
of the sick. She was born c.454. When she was
young her father wished to make a very suitable
marriage for her but she insisted in consecrating
her life to God. She received the veil and spiritual
formation probably from St. Mel and stayed for a
period under his direction in Ardagh (Co.
Longford). Others followed her example and this
led her to found a double monastery in Kildare
with the assistance of Bishop Conleth. She died in
524, and her cult is widespread not only
throughout Ireland but in several European lands.
The St. Brigid’s Cross, in legend used by Brigid to
explain the Christian faith, remains a popular sign
of God’s protection. St. Brigid’s Crosses will be
blessed at Mass on Friday 1st February
ST. BLAISE - Feast Day, Sun. 3rd Feb. - Patron of sore throats and sick cattle. He was a physician before becoming a Bishop. The blessing of St. Blaise is a sign of our faith in God’s protection and love for us and for the sick.
