Act of Spiritual Communion  “My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You have already come , and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen”

 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Nothing but Jesus - Donal Neary S.J.

We all need some statements like Peter’s that give a rock and a meaning to life. It gives us a clue of where we belong at deeper levels. We all need statements that express our faith in God. For Peter it was his faith in Jesus, the son of God. This would keep him going all of

his life, even at times of unfaithfulness and danger. He could never forget that he had said, ‘you are the Christ, the son of the living God’. We might wonder who or what is a living God for us? Where we might put our basic trust?

What is it that, if taken away, we would be lost without? We can give our lives to family, country, a political party, money. Some of these are worth our trust and some not so much. We need the rock that Peter found in Jesus. He was called the rock only because of his

relationship with Jesus Christ, the one who calls forth our faith and love and gives our lives a huge meaning.

It’s not that we have nothing but Jesus - it’s that we can integrate all that is important in life within our trust in him. It is God who reveals Jesus to us. We want to give this to our younger people - a rock they can stand on in life, which nothing can demolish. This is Jesus, and in him all is created. Recall strong convictions in your life. Ask that they may be strengthened. Lord, be my rock, my stronghold, my safety

The number of people with the coronavirus in Ireland has risen sharply despite the government restrictions. Twice as many cases were announced last week. PRAYER TO ST. BARTHOLMEW Feast Day 24th August O Glorious Saint Bartholomew, Jesus called you a person without guile and you saw in this word a sign that he was the Son of God and King of Israel. Obtain for us the grace to be ever guileless and innocent as doves. At the same time, help us to have your gift of faith to see the Divine hand in the events of daily life May we discern the signs of the times that lead to Jesus on earth and will eventually unite us to him forever in heaven.  Amen

A PRAYER FOR THIS TIME  Lord Jesus, generous healer, stay with us in our time of anxiety and sorrow. Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace. Be with the families of those who are sick. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace.  Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk. May they know your protection and peace. Amen

 A PRAYER …….Lord, you are . . .

Lord, you are my island, in your bosom I rest You are the calm of the sea, in that place I stay You are the song of the birds, in that tune is my joy You are the breaking waves on the rock, your praise is echoed in the swell You are the Lord of my life, in you I live You are the Lord of eternity, to you I commend my spirit – Amen

FACE COVERINGS In solidarity with the vast majority of our fellow citizens who actively promote and pursue as safe an environment as possible – in their homes, their places of work and places where they shop or gather, the Diocese of Ardagh & Clonmacnois now ‘strongly recommends’ the wearing of face coverings in addition to the continuation of social distancing and sanitising in all its Churches and buildings as public Masses and services resume
