A Prayer of Spiritual Communion Lord Jesus Christ, you promised to be with your church always, until the end of time. We long to experience your presence more deeply and more intimately, even when we cannot gather in person as church to celebrate Eucharist. We believe that you are present when we gather to worship. We believe you are present in your ordained minister and in your sacred word when the Scriptures are proclaimed. And we believe you are present when your sacred body and blood become our food and drink. Our relationship with you is truly grace. When I am not able to be physically present at the Eucharist with the community, help me to strengthen and deepen my relationship with you as I seek to encounter and serve you, not only in prayer but in all I meet, especially in the poor and needy of our world. Amen.

FACE COVERINGS - The Diocese of Ardagh & Clonmacnois ‘strongly recommends’ the wearing of face coverings in addition to the continuation of social distancing and sanitising in all its Churches and buildings for public Masses.

 If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself, take up his cross and follow me.

In last Sunday’s Gospel Peter made an eager commitment to follow Jesus. Today, he is told that his choice will have a cost. The way of Christ is the way of the cross. As for Peter, so for us. The cross is the mark of the disciple from the Baptismal font to the grave. In essence, it means saying ‘no’ to self and saying ’yes’ to God. This will take us to places we would rather not go, but as St. Rose of Lima reminds us: ‘apart from the Cross we have no other ladder by which we may get to heaven’. We may be sure that there are no crown-wearers in heaven who were not cross-bearers on earth. By embracing the cross, we ripen. By carrying it willingly, we will find that it will carry us. In its’ shadow we learn that every trial has a triumph in it and each battle we face has a purpose. The cross is not a loss. It is actually the supreme sign of God’s love for us. To look at the cross is to feel loved and it is an invitation to love as He has loved us. ‘The cross is the school of love’ (Maximillian Kolbe).

Therefore, one can conclude with mathematical certainty that while hard work and knowledge will get you close and attitude will get you there, it’s the Love of God that will put you over the top! In these busy days of love, with much activity happening in getting our schools reopened, take a few moments to remember the Love of God, and how that love shows in the Blessings that we often take for granted.

Schools Reopening As our schools reopen this week, we are very conscious of the continued threat of the Covid-19 virus and the anxiety of parents, teachers and pupils. We hope and pray that all will be safe but we cannot underestimate the possibility of someone contracting the virus. All families have been informed of the safety measures and policies re: our schools. Its important that we remain vigilant, but calm as we work our way through this virus. In the event of an outbreak, please avoid the ‘blame game’, but encourage and support staff, pupils and parents.

Season of Creation, September 1st—October 4th This years theme for season of creation is “cultivating hope” as we focus on building a better future for all humanity and for our common home.

  BACK TO SCHOOL BLESSING  Dear Heavenly Father, For all the children returning to school, send your Holy Spirit as their guide and protector. Keep them free from danger and unnecessary harm. Put our sons and daughters in the right place, at the right time, to receive your grace.  Let them learn and grow strong. May the presence of your Spirit fill their hearts. Help us to mature as parents and caregivers. Bless every family, O Lord. We entrust our children to you, dear God. Since form the beginning, they are yours to keep. IN the name of the greatest Son of all, Jesus Christ. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR TEACHERS Lord, bless the teachers who give their heart to teaching. Thank you  for the special gift that you have given them and for giving them a spirit of grace and compassion. May they have strength and endurance to perform their many tasks, and may they know and feel the deep gratitude of those whom they teach. Amen.
