 23rd SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

‘If he listens to you, you have won back your brother’ At the dawn of creation, Cain protested that he was not his brother, Abel’s keeper. His words have been quoted throughout history to justify turning a blind eye, not getting involved even when a brother or sister is taking the wrong path. Jesus says that we are our brother’s, or sister’s keeper. Love corrects. If love doesn’t correct, then it is not love, but the correction must never be done harshly. It should never cause resentment. Naming and shaming never brings healing. When someone does something wrong, we would do well to remember the many things they did right. When Cardinal Angelo Roncalli the future Pope John XXIII was Patriarch of Venice, he once went to visit a wayward priest whose life was causing scandal. Having entered the priest’s house the Cardinal greeted him warmly and then knelt down and asked the priest if he would hear his confession. From that moment the priest began to turn his life around. Correction done with love bears fruit.

 A PRAYER  O God, early in the morning I cry to you. Help me to pray and to concentrate my thoughts on you: I cannot do this alone. In me there is darkness, but with you there is light; I am lonely, but you do not leave me; I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help; I am restless, but with you there is peace. In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience; I do not understand your ways, but you know the way for me… Restore me to liberty and enable me to live now That I may answer before you and before me. Lord, whatever this day may bring, Your name be praised. Amen. (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

There's something in it!

Life ends; when you stop dreaming

hope ends; when you stop believing

Love ends; when you stop caring

friendship ends; when you stop sharing.

let us try our best

not to let any of it end.

SEASON OF CREATION: 2020: “Never have we so hurt and mistreated our common home as we have in the last two hundred years,” stated Pope Francis recently. So he has declared Tuesday next, September 1st as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. The Season of Creation or Creation Time, is marked throughout the Christian world from 1 September to 4 October (Feast of St. Francis of Assisi) and celebrates the joy of creation as well as encouraging awareness-raising initiatives to protect the natural environment.

STEWARDS/ SANITISING : We have been very blessed in our Parish with our Stewards and people sanitising. But we only have 2 stewards in Clonfanlough and 3 in Shannonbridge. Some of our parishes have not succeeded in having some  of their parish Masses return because of a lack of volunteers in this regards.

If you could help in this regard of stewarding or sanitising I’d love to hear from you.  So far numbers have not been critical. But if there is pressure on space– we may need to have a booking/ticket system

 CHURCH COLLECTIONS – Many thanks to all in these most difficult times who so kindly continue to contribute to our collection every week. Thanks to Morans Gala for facilitating envelopes being left off.  We will continue to pray with and for you all each day. If anybody wants to offer financial support to our Church you can do so by electronic transfer if it is more convenient to do s    o. Our bank details are as follows:- Clonmacnois Parochial Account. BIC-BOFIIE2DXXX     IBAN-IE90BOFI90368011629381 Make sure to put your name and/or your envelope number in the reference section. Your generous contribution enables the parish to meet all ongoing expenses. God protect you and yours.

 PARISH COUNCIL MEETING on  Tuesday 15th September at 8p.m. in Shannonbridge Hall. Any item for discussion should be given in advance to members of the Parish Council
