Third Sunday of Easter
‘Come and have breakfast’
The word hospitality comes from two Greek words meaning ‘love of strangers’. It is a virtue that is both commanded and commended in Scripture. Hospitality was central in the life of Jesus. We find him regularly acting as host or guest while sitting at table with friends and strangers. It is said of the ministry of Jesus that He is either going to a meal, at a meal or coming from a meal. It was often in the meal setting that He delivered His most profound teaching. If you take the meals out of the Bible it becomes a very short book. Meals are more than food. They are about community, connection, friendship and fellowship. They represent open hearts, open hands and open doors. They are a reminder to us of the generous hospitality of our God. Before we invite people to Church, perhaps we should invite them to dinner! It is no surprise, then, to find that the disciples recognize Jesus in today’s Gospel as He prepares breakfast for them by the shore. We cannot survive in life without food or love Jesus provides us with both in the Eucharis

OUR LADY OF CLONFERT, I come to you, as one of your children, who will never forget the importance of a woman like you. I come because I believe in you. I come to say thanks for the past and the present and ask you to bless me in the future. You know me, you know how I live and you know my needs. Please help me especially when I need you most. I have problems, worries and anxieties the same as everyone else - help me to cope. So often I would just love to give up when life hurts me and people betray me, but give me the courage never to lose heart. Bless my family, my life and my friends. Help me, no matter what happens to me in life, to believe, to trust and to hope. Our Lady of Clonfert, pray for us.

UKRAINE APPEAL: Sincere thanks to all who contributed so generously to the recent Special Collection for Ukraine. Nationally, this collection has raised to date over €3.25 million. The war in Ukraine, and the terrible suffering which has resulted, has seen a tremendous outpouring of compassion and generosity from our parish communities. Your contributions will bring much-needed relief to those in the region whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated. The funds raised will be used by the international Catholic Church agency, Caritas Internationalis, which is currently operating on the ground in Ukraine.

Bring Flowers of the Rarest Bring flowers of the rarest bring blossoms the fairest, from gardens and woodlands and hillside and dale; Our full hearts are swelling, our glad voices telling the praise of the loveliest flower of the vale! Chorus: O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today! Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May. O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today, Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May
DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY & SYNOD PATHWAY Since September 2019 we have been invited to take part in a listing process throughout the Diocese. Over the first few months, delegates from each parish worked with a wide and varied group of people, to look at their needs and what parish meant for them today. Some of those who took part were involved in parish life and others were not; there were also a good many individual submissions received from people throughout the diocese over this period of time. From these submissions a number of pastoral priorities were voted on, to be developed further. With Covid-19 the work of the Assembly was put on hold, but opportunities were taken to listen to the effects of these last two years on parish life and on parishioners. This month all this work will be gathered together as delegates will assemble in person to work on furthering the priorities that have been discerned over these two years. During this period of time Pope Francis invited submissions from around the world in a Synodal pathway, in the same way that our Diocesan Assembly invited us to listen and discern the Spirit in our parishes today. All the work and viewpoints that have been shared over the last two years will now also form the basis of our submission to the Synod Pathway. There is a line in the prayer for the Assembly which says: “Jesus, you promise us your Holy Spirit to guide us always until the end of time”. We invite you to keep the Assembly of parish representatives on the 14th May and those involved in the Synod in your thoughts and prayers at this time.
Prayer to St Joseph– May 1st Joseph the Worker Father, You entrusted to St. Joseph, what You held most precious, the Child Jesus and His Mother.
May He, who shared in the suffering of those who flee from the hatred of the powerful , console and protect our brothers and sisters driven by war, poverty and necessity to leave their homes and their lands.
Help them, through the intercession of St. Joseph, to find the strength to persevere, give them comfort in sorrows and courage in their trials.
May He who earned His bread by the work of His hands, watch over those who have seen everything in life taken away and obtain for them a job and a home. Grant to those who welcome them some of the tender love of Joseph. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
