Fourth Sunday of Easter

‘DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis’. One stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis we should be aware of the danger, but recognise the opportunity. On this ‘Vocations Sunday’ we acknowledge the crisis in the Irish Church with regard to vocations to priesthood and religious life, but we should see in this a wonderful opportunity to awaken what Cardinal Ó Fiaich once called the ‘sleeping giant’ of the laity. The mission of the Church is the mission of all. Pope Francis is calling on all the faithful to embrace this mission with enthusiasm and journey forward with confidence on what he terms ‘the synodal pathway’. It is his vision for the future that the entire Church family, priests, religious and laity will walk forward together, listening to one another and above all, listening to the voice and promptings of Holy Spirit. Our upcoming Diocesan Assembly is a response to the Holy Father’s request. May the Spirit guide our deliberations and guide us in our efforts to discern new ways to manifest God’s love in a seemingly indifferent world, to be as renowned Dutch theologian Henri Nouwen said, ‘witnesses to the glimpses of God we have been allowed to catch’. As we embark on the synodal pathway let us remind ourselves that God does not call the equipped, but He does equip the called. He has committed some work to me that He has not committed to another. St. Catherine of Siena, an Italian laywoman of the fourteenth century, grasped this truth which lies at the heart of vocation, and expressed it memorably: ‘If you are what you should be, then you will set the world on fire’.

Diocesan Assembly 14th May. Please keep in your prayers these days. Jesus you promise us your Holy Spirit to guide us always until the end of time” .

VOCATIONS SUNDAY- As Catholics, we firmly believe that God has a plan for our lives! He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood, and others to religious life or to live as generous single people. This Sunday 8th May is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is also known as "Good Shepherd Sunday." The Lord asked his disciples to "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord's call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes. Pray also for the priests who have ministered to you throughout your life, both living and dead. Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister.
VOCATION PRAYER  God, I know you love me and have great plans for me. But sometimes I am overwhelmed by the thought of my future. Show me how to walk forward one day at a time. May I be open to the many choices that lie before me, listen to others for advice, and pay attention to my own feelings. By doing these many things may I hear your call to a lifestyle and career that will let me love as only I can and let me serve others with the special gifts that you have given me. Amen.

 Safeguarding Message:
The Easter Season is the high point of the Church year as Christian people        celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. This celebration reminds us of our great    dignity as God’s children and our calling to recognise Christ in each other.   Thankfully the Covid restrictions of the past two years have eased and while there are still concerns around the virus, parish activities have resumed to a fairly high degree. We are pleased to welcome back our   parishioners young and old.  We continue to be mindful of our responsibilities in the area of safeguarding and of the need to reach the highest standards of best practise.  The Diocesan      Safeguarding Committee continue to monitor and promote the ideals of         safeguarding.  The National Board for Safeguarding will be reviewing the National Policy and Guidance in the coming year to ensure it continues to be fit for        purpose. We as a diocese will have an audit in the   autumn of 2022 conducted by independent assessors on behalf of the National Board. This will enable us as a diocese to continue to go forward in offering safe environments and structures for children and young people to be active in the Church.
I thank all who are involved in the work of safeguarding in the diocese - your   involvement is vital for the work of keeping children safe. If anyone who wishes to raise a concern or make a complaint in the diocese, I encourage you to        contact the Designated Liaison Person, Tusla or the Garda.  Keeping people safe is an ongoing work which we undertake because of our belief in the dignity of every human person and our faith in the Lord Jesus who inspires us to continue to minister to young people that they too may know and follow him as disciples.
