 Summer Sounds

-“A man says a lot of things in summer he doesn’t mean in winter.” - Patricia Briggs.

“One swallow does not make a summer, neither does one fine day; similarly one day or brief time of happiness does not make a person entirely happy.”- Aristotle.

OPENING THE ARCHIVES Pope Francis has ordered the online publication of 170 volumes of files relating to Jewish people from the recently opened Pope Pius XII archive. The documents that gather requests for help sent to Pope Pius XII by Jewish people after the beginning of Nazì and fascist persecution have been available for consultation by scholars since March 2020. But Pope Francis has asked that the documents now be made accessible online to everyone

FIFTEENTH  SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

‘Who is my neighbour’?

The parable of the Good Samaritan is one of the best known and best loved in the New Testament. It is found only in St. Luke’s Gospel. A man lies broken and bruised by the roadside. A priest and a Levite, from whom more would be expected pass-by, each one guided no doubt by the same question: ‘if I stop to help this man what will happen to me’? But when a Samaritan, the great ‘outsider’ arrives on the scene he is moved with compassion for his stricken brother and poses himself a very different question: ‘If I don’t’ stop to help this man what will happen to him’? We rise by lifting others. The ones who stop on the road become bigger people, and they will have their reward. Those who pass by and fail to respond remain small. Consequently, when we reach the end of the road we will most likely, be surprised by those who will be present at the heavenly banquet and those who will be absent. ‘The Good Samaritan isn’t just a parable, it’s a way of life’ (Pope Francis)

Annual Blessing of Graves Once again, I wish to compliment people on the way in which you attend to family plots in the cemetery– I’m aways touched to see a “neighbourly eye” cast over adjoining graves who may not have family to tend their resting place. This is a nice time of year to pay a visit  In the coming weeks when wreaths and flowers become unsightly, I would ask you to bring them home— leaving at the wall or over a wall into adjacent fields it simply not on.  May all our dead rest in peace.
