SIXTEENTH  SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

There are two types of hospitality: the hospitality of giving and the hospitality of presence. Both are important. Both are necessary. Martha in today’s Gospel is busy preparing a meal to welcome Jesus to her home. She is doing a beautiful deed. She represents the hospitality of giving. Mary, her sister, sits quietly and attentively at the feet of the Lord, listening to His words. She represents the hospitality of presence. Jesus commended Mary and assured her that she had ‘chosen the better part’. In so doing, He was not condemning Martha, but rather lauding the value of listening and silence in our everyday lives. Everything that’s created comes out of silence. God speaks most powerfully in the silence, but our world no longer hears Him because it is constantly speaking. He gets lost in the noise. The challenge then for all of us is to create ‘Mary moments’ in a ‘Martha world’. Creating moments of ‘nondoing’ each day is essential nourishment for the soul. Mary chose the better part

A JOURNEY SHARED Lord, watch over  our parish,  encourage us to watch with one  another as  we seek to know your will.  Make us gentle in word,  kind in spirit,  strong in hope  and guide us, ever gently along that road of peace  that leads to your door;  a door that will always open   to the knock of faithful people.

Amen

The Better part?

-Time spent with people we love is time treasured in our memory In the time together love grows, friendships deepen and people come to mean more to each other.

-Time spent with each other in marriage is the place where we are worthwhile, valued, loved.

-Time spent with children is the place from which love’s energies extend and reach out to children.

-There are times when we must work for and with each other, when we must be busy, and there are times for being together.

-Time spent with God is like the time of Mary at the feet of Jesus; in the spaces of prayer love deepens in the heart, the warmth of God takes hold of the heart, and we are once again made whole.

This is the time - time spent with Jesus - when we can relax into the mystery of being loved, of being forgiven, being called, and of being totally held now and forever love

NATIONAL GRANDPARENTS PILGRIMAGE at the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock will once again be celebrated on the 24th of July, the Sun. closest to the Feast of Saint Joachim and St. Anne, grandparents of Jesus as the the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Please contact Connie at catholicgrandparents@gmail.com – phone number 085 8704722. Grandparents are the footsteps to the future generations." - Author Unknown

Prayer for the second World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly I give thanks to you, Lord, for the blessing of a long life For, to those who take refuge in You, Grant always to bear fruit. Forgive, O Lord, resignation and disillusionment, but forsake me not when my strength declines. Teach me to look with hope to the future you give me, to the mission you entrust to me and to sing your praises without end. Make me a tender craftsman of Your revolution, to guard with love my grandchildren and all the little ones who seek shelter in You. Protect, O Lord, Pope Francis and grant thy Church to deliver the world from loneliness. Direct our steps in the way of peace. Amen.

STREAMING PROBLEMS After 2.5  years my faithful MEVO mobile streaming camera has given up. So I’ve a new one on order arriving 20th . (At “only” €350 full stop. MEVO was far less than a fixed €4,000 fixed webcam with monthly €200 running costs as in other churches.). I experience a poor network in Clonfanlough Church area with 1-2mb network speed. I’d welcome any advice to overcome that.
