ELEVENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR ‘
Go rather to the lost sheep of the House of Israel’. As Jesus was commissioning His apostles to carry on His work, He advised them to begin at home. Religion does indeed begin in the home. Pope St. John Paul left the same message with the people of Ireland as he departed these shores in 1979 when he said: ‘The home should be the first school of religion as it must be the first school of prayer’. Parents are simply the most significant influence on the religious and spiritual outcomes of young people. They are the ‘first and best teachers in the ways of faith’. Nurturing the faith is not about parents adding more to their already busy ‘to do’ list, but instead it is about helping their children know God through the simple everyday moments of life. The little ‘habits of faith’ and ‘teachable moments’ developed in the home leave a lasting impression. The gathering for family prayer at meal time and at the end of the day, the sprinkling of holy water on leaving the home, the presence of sacred images and above all regular Mass attendance - these and more are the mustard seeds that grow into oak trees. Faith-filled families produce faith-filled communities and by extension, a faith-filled world. ‘As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live’. The challenge goes-out to every generation. We either hand-on faith or we hand-on unbelief! If one generation is lost to the faith, it is difficult and rare for the next generation to return once more to the faith of their grandparents. It all begins in the home.

End of Year Mass Clonmacnois N.S.
Thursday June 22nd 7pm Shannonbridge Church. All welcome
This weekend is a special weekend for our Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois as we welcome Paul Connell as our new Bishop . A native of Mullingar and priest of the diocese of Meath. He will become at 3pm on Sunday the 15th Bishop of the combine diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois. Up until 1756 Clonmacnois was administered by the bishop of Meath.
I must admit I’m a migrant from Elphin Diocese. Bishop Dominic Conway confirmed me in 1978 and as a Leaving Cert in St. Mel’s College, Longford in 1983 I had the honour of representing my Class in a presentation to the departing Bishop Cathal Daly, who was going to Down & Connor and later became Cardinal Daly, Primate of All Ireland. Bishop Colm O’Reilly succeeded him in 1983 (ordaining me in 1991) and confirmed many of you and your children. He is still in good health, and was succeeded by Francis Duffy in 2013 who in 2021 was installed as Archbishop of Tuam. Now we welcome Paul our new Bishop. His experience has been mostly in the field of Education in St. Finian’s College in Mullingar. We welcome him and we ask God to keep him well and to bless him with all the many gifts he will need; a listening heart, compassion, courage, and good health. At every Mass from now on we will pray for “Paul Our Bishop”. He is now one of us and we hope he can feel at home among us always.
On the day of his appointment Fr Paul said “ As a church we live in interesting times, facing many challenges. Our society is in danger of losing the sense of the sacred. As we look around we see difficulties for the church on all sides. The temptation to despair is great but we must rather take courage and not be afraid” Do not be afraid were the words of Jesus to the women who followed him to Calvary. Fr Paul went on to say “We live in times of change. It is a challenging time to be a priest or a bishop”. Our new bishop’s motto is DEUS SPES MEA (God is my hope). We wish Fr Paul every blessing as he takes on the role of bishop of our diocese. All are welcome to attend the ordination ceremony. I have some tickets if you would make contact please at 086 8319500
“Jesus, make our Diocesan Family of 41 parishes, a place of joy and laughter where all our children will be safe and free and feel at home always. “

Grant them courage to shoulder the burden of their responsibilities for their families
Grant them wisdom to guide and care for their loved ones
Grant them integrity so that they can rejoice in your constant help.

Lord we thank you for our fathers and ask you to bless them all. Amen.
Summer Solstice Blessing It's the midsummer's evening, the shortest of night, where our planet is blessed with the greatest of light. The sun at its power, sharing its wealth, with the earth glowing in abundance and health. The trees leaves are green, the birds are in song. The days are as warm as they are long. We honour the animals, the plants and living things, the sun and the water and for the life that it brings May you find well-being and may you find peace, in days after solstice, as the light does decrease. May the blessings of the solstice be yours I pray, and the light warm your heart and soul every day.
Prayer to Saint John the Baptist Oh God, you gave St. Elizabeth, in her old age, the gift of a son, St. John the Baptist, who would prepare the way for Jesus to begin His ministry here on earth. Lord, Fill Your people with the joy of possessing graces like those of Saint John the Baptist, and direct the minds of all us in the way of salvation and peace. St. John was martyred for truth and justice, so may we Dear God, energetically profess our Faith in You, and help us to lead others to Your Way, Your Truth, and Your Eternal Life. Amen.
The Holmes Family, Clonfanlough would like to thank most sincerely those who donated so generously to their recent Plant Sale & Coffee Morning in aid of The Parkinson's Association of Ireland.
