30th SUNDAY OF THE YEAR
Love God and love your neighbour
In today’s extract from Matthew’s Gospel Jesus
reduces the 613 regulations of the Old Law to just
two basic commandments: Love God and love your
neighbour. The two are closely intertwined and
Victor Hugo expressed this truth quite beautifully at
the end of his classic work ‘Les Miserables’: ‘To love
another person is to see the face of God’. American
author Kyle Idleman annunciates the same truth
from the other end of the spectrum by saying ‘we
love others best when we love God most’. It begins
with God. All we have and are comes from Him and
awareness of that fact is the wellspring from which
love of self and neighbour flows. If we accept that
God has fashioned man and woman in His own
image then all people are loveable. What then does
love of neighbour look like? The answer lies close
to home! The wonderful 1964 Musical ‘Fiddler on
the Roof’ contains a memorable and touching scene
where the husband Tevye asks his wife Golde, ‘do you
love me’? Her reply is powerful in its’ simplicity: ‘for
twenty five years I’ve washed your clothes, cooked
your meals, cleaned your house, given you children,
milked the cow.... If that’s not love, what is’? Indeed!

SAINTS FOR THE COMING WEEK
Sat Oct 28th Ss Simon & Jude
Prayer to St. Jude God the Father, give me hope. Help me to know that Your hope is alive in me as I offer kindness, forgiveness and tenderness to others. I seek the calm that comes from trusting in Your hope and Your healing presence. I trust that Your servant St. Jude walks with me in all the blessings and challenges of my life, and intercedes on behalf of my petitions. St. Jude, fill my heart with hope. Amen.
Nov 1st All Saints This feast day started as a commemoration of “all martyrs” in the fourth century. From the year 800 the feast of All Saints has been observed on November 1st.
Nov 2nd All Souls The Church has encouraged prayer for the dead from the earliest times as an act of Christian charity. Since nobody achieves perfection in this life but rather go to the grave scarred with traces of sinfulness, some period of purification may be necessary before a soul comes face to face with God. This is the doctrine of Purgatory

School’s New Boards of Management The new Primary School Boards of Management are now in the process of being formed. Thanks to the outgoing Board for their help, support and commitment over the past four years. The board's main function is to manage the school on behalf of the patron and for the benefit of the students and to provide an appropriate education for each. The Board of Management is constituted as follows for schools having a recognised staff of more than one teacher: (i) Two direct nominees of the Patron. (ii) Two parents of children enrolled in the school (one being a mother, the other a father, elected by the general body of parents of children enrolled in the school). (Note: as far as possible, parents are from separate families & not related to any other Board member) (iii) The Principal Teacher (or Acting Principal Teacher) of the school. (iv) One other teacher on the staff of the school, elected by vote of the teaching staff, including the Principal Teacher. (v) Two extra members proposed by those nominees
