World Mission Sunday World Mission Sunday is the Holy Father’s annual appeal for spiritual and financial support so that the life-giving work of overseas mission and missionaries can continue. We remember our missionaries—lay and religious—who continue the work of developing the Kingdom of God and bring the Good News of the Gospel to all parts of the world. We pray especially for those who work in difficult and hostile situations that the Holy Spirit will continue to give them the faith, hope and courage necessary. . Your contribution through your envelope helps sustain our missionaries and furthers the growth of the Kingdom of God. Spare envelopes are available at the back of the Church for those who don’t use our parish envelope Thank you for your support.

There is a an envelope marked “Propagation of the Faith” in the Parish Box of Envelopes. That goes to the Mission  Sunday appeal on Oct 22nd . There are additional envelopes left in both churches for your convenience. This year the organisers Missio have an novel alternative—you can donate by text as follows: [Please donate €4.00 by texting the word ‘Mission’ to 50300. Alternatively donate at www.missio.ie or call Missio on 01 4972035. To learn more go to www.missio.ie*]

Prayer For peace between Israel & Palestine

Two peoples, one land,

Three faiths, one root,

One earth, one mother,

One sky, one beginning,

one future, one destiny,

One broken heart, One God.

We pray to You: Grant us a vision of unity. May we see the many in the one and the one in the many. May you, Life of All the Worlds, Source of All Differences help us to see clearly. Guide us gently and firmly toward each other, toward peace

29th SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

MISSION SUNDAY

‘You will shine in the world like bright stars’

Today we join with over one billion of our Catholic brothers and sisters around the world who are observing Mission Sunday. It is a day when our attention is drawn to the Baptismal Font, the place where our faith journey began. On that day we were called to be sharers in the mission of the Church. Mission is at the heart of our Church because our Founder, Christ was the first missionary. If you take all references to mission out of the Bible, you will have nothing left except the covers! Consequently, the true greatness of our Church lies not in how many seats it fills but in how many it sends-out! The Church must send or the Church will end! We are sent then, as our ancestors down the ages were sent to make His voice heard and His face seen. All we need to be successful in our missionary task is embedded in the gifts, talents, capabilities, dreams and visions we possess. We just need to use them!
