FEAST OF THE ASCENSION

‘He was taken up into heaven’

As Jesus ascended into heaven, He blessed His

friends and they let Him go. Life is like that.

As we move from one stage of the journey

to the next we must bless what has been and

let it go in order to embrace fruitfully what

has yet to be. We must not allow ourselves to

become prisoners of the past with all its’ hurts

and wounds. The past can blind and bind us.

Holding on is believing that there is only a

past; letting go is knowing there is a future. It

was towards that future that Jesus directed His

friends as He took their leave. While giving

them a glimpse of the world beyond, He

directed them to continue His work in this

world. This message is presented powerfully

in a striking picture of the Ascension in

the College Chapel of St. Patrick’s College,

Maynooth. Here, as Jesus ascends, we notice

that Mary is not looking towards Him, but

rather outwards towards us. In other words,

we are to find Him now in the lives of the

people around us and help them to encounter

Him. That is our mission and the reward for

our efforts will be, literally, out of this world.

The Feast of the Ascension, then, teaches us

much about going forward, going out, going

home and letting go.

It is up to us to decide whether we will become fodder for algorithms or will nourish our hearts with that freedom without which we cannot grow in wisdom” Pope Francis

EARLY MAY TIME Rose Moran- RSM-‘From Dawn Through to Dusk’.

It’s May and Summer time again. /Of flower and leaf and every bloom /All the song and hum and drone /Growth in sunlight, field and fold In wild and wood, hedge and tree / In colour, fragrance, beauty / Riotous autumn cut a dash /Before the dying came /Winter wind and storm and splash with cold and snow and rain /Made thrill by fires in homes /To festive Christmas fare //Spring’s new earth-awakened signs alert us one by one //  Till all at once in April dawn //With dancing sun Resurrection morn is come and brings new light to life in May

//Rejoice in May and linger long //Whenever sun is shining //Wherever bloom upon the thorn turns out to greet another morn //Or song of bird alerts the ear //Or flip of wing says summers’s here //Be glad to breathe in air again //Be born anew this summer time //Let Resurrection be the chime /// That wakens being within Across the gate, the way, the hill / //The shepherd-piping hear

The apparitions to the three children of Fatima took place in the summer of 1917, beginning on the 13th May when Our Lady asked topray and an end to the World War. In the final apparition on 13th Oct. 1917, Our Lady identified herself as Our Lady of the Rosary and called for prayer and conversion.
