For faraway friends who may be interested in belated results of the second round of the 6-Nations rugby results last weekend they were – Ireland 38 Italy 9, France 22 Scotland 13, Wales 23 England 15. There is a break this coming weekend and Ireland play England the following weekend. Ireland is scheduled to play against Wales, the pre favourites for the series, in their final game. Michael Reddy, Shannonbridge was an M.P. in Westminster from about 1901 to 1918. A friend gave me some websites that are used to find information on MP's since 1803. http://hansard. home address of where you can look up what any MP said since 1803. http://hansard. This shows that he appears to have been elected on October 1st 1901 http://hansard. the year's from1901 to 1918 and all speeches/questions he made in the House of Commons. Just click on each year and it brings you to all the issues Michael Reddy spoke about in that year. On Monday in Saint Michael's Church in Ballinasloe the funeral Mass for Colman Hernon was celebrated. Prior to the Mass the congregation were entertained to some Irish music on the accordion. His wife Nancy was unable to be present but Father Mc Inerney the celebrant asked the congregation on two occasions to pause and remember Nancy in our prayers. The priest told that Colman was a Connemara man with a love for horses and he was interested in sport particularly boxing. So at the presentation of memorial gifts a statue of a horse, a horse-shoe, a picture and boxing gloves were brought to the altar by Colman's grandchildren. The accordion player played some suitable music at this time. Somebody told me that Colman and Nancy's son Joe and his wife Una are both deaf and dumb. So a signer was on the altar to translate everything that was said. At the end of Mass and during the removal of the coffin down the aisle the accordionist played a lively air that would entice one to dance. So I suspect that Colman was fond of Irish music and dancing. He was a founder member of the Ballinasloe Boxing Club and Colman boxed for Ireland. May he rest in peace. Today I heard that Frank Dawson has been appointed County Manager in Roscommon and is due to take up that position from next week. He has a great interest in historic things and has a great interest in old railways. Wishing him well with his appointment
