Memo from Parish Pastoral Council
‘We are fortunate to have 2 good Halls in our Parish, and we are happy that both are used regularly. We ask Organisations using them to leave them as they would like to find them – clean & tidy. Please ensure that all rubbish is removed, that lights, water& heat are turned off.
It is getting more expensive to maintain these Halls, because of increased costs for heat, lighting, water & Insurance. We need your cooperation.
We ask that rent for the particular Hall be paid to the person with whom the Hall is booked ASAP. The Hall in Clonfanlough is booked with Ann Guinan, and in Shannonbridge with Liz Duffy.’

50th I. Eucharistic Congress: ‘Communion with Christ & one another.’
All large celebrations require a great deal of materials & preparation. The Eucharistic Congress is no exception. There are many challenges involved, and we want to ensure that the whole Church, both in Ireland & further afield, will see the Congress as opportunities to deepen our Faith in the Eucharist.
The Fourth National Collection for the Congress will take place on the weekend of 5/6th May. (In your box of envelopes the appropriate one is marked as 10th June; please use this if you can. There is also an envelope in the information pack that is available today. You may use the ‘Holy Land envelope at some other time). Your support, especially in these difficult economic circumstances is very much appreciated, and we thank for your support to date.

Next Sun is ‘Vocation Sun’ – a day to pray for guidance in our calling

"Gratitude can best be defined and understood as the only possible response to a gift, to something recognized as utterly, freely given. Gratitude is the vision – the way of seeing – that recognizes ‘gift.’ Our culture seems on the verge of losing the meaning of the experience of gratitude, in part because we have lost all sense of ‘gift.’" (Ernest Kurtz)

Questions people ask (Fr O’Flynn – Intercom)Q. In what way was the raising of Jesus different from the raising of Lazarus or the widow’s son at Nain? A. It’s the difference between resuscitation and Resurrection. Lazarus was resuscitated, meaning that he was brought back into the same level of life and he had to die again at a later date. Resurrection is not coming back into former life but going forward into a new and greater life. An entirely new level of life was revealed in the Resurrection of Jesus. As St Paul wrote, all our believing is based on the Resurrection of Jesus.

Division Two Football League.
A much improved performance by Shannonbridge saw them record their first league win, overcoming Clonbullogue, on Sunday, at Shannonbridge.
This game featured a welcome first start for John Ryan after a long absence through injury. The home side were soon into their stride leading four points to two after ten minutes. A trip on Kieran Flannery, when through on goal, yielded a penalty. Paul Deely’s spot kick was well saved at the expense of a point. A good goal by Peadar Kelly, midway through the first half, gave Shannonbridge a six point lead. Clonbullogue were reduced to fourteen men just before the interval. Half time score 1-8 to 0-4.
Shannonbridge maintained their lead through the second half and with good support play, picked off some good scores, to lead by 1-19 to 0-8 at the final whistle.
Team: M. Deeley, M. Darcy, P. Moloney, J. Deeley, C. Killeen, N. Price, W. Keena (0-1), J. Egan (0-1), J. Ryan, T. Mahon, K. Flannery (0-6), P. Egan, P. Kelly (1-2), E. Egan (0-1), P. Deeley (0-8). Subs: R. Ryan for N. Price, A. Kelly for P. Moloney, M. Moloney for M. Darcy.
