HAVE YOUR LAMPS LIT!
Preparation for the life hereafter is an ongoing process.  It’s like continuous assessment in school or college.  It’s never done and dusted and put away.  The way we live from day to day, our whole attitude to life and living; these are part of our preparation.  Patrick Kavanagh said that “God is in the bits and pieces of everyday.”  So with our preparation for the call to the next life.

Mass for the Intentions of the People of the Parish, Missa pro Populo, in Shannonbridge, on Saturday 13th, at 8.00 p.m.

Mass is celebrated at Cluain Ciaráin Prayer Centre, on Wednesday evenings at 7.30.

Mass and Blessing of Graves in Templeduff Children’s Cemetery, Cloniffeen, on Tuesday 9th, at 7.00 p.m.

Saturday 6th, is the Feast of The Transfiguration of the Lord, a glimpse of his Resurrection glory.

Sunday 7th, St. Sixtus II, Pope, martyred with companions in 258.

Sunday 7th, St. Cajetan, 1480-1547, promoted renewal of sacramental life in the Church.

Monday 8th, St. Dominic, 1170-1221, a Spaniard who founded the Dominicans (Order of Preachers) to counteract heresy.

Tuesday 9th, St. Teresa Benedict of the Cross (Edith Stein), a Patroness of Europe; born 1891 into a Jewish family in Poland, she became a Catholic and later a Carmelite nun, martyred in the gas chamber at Auschwitz, 9th August, 1942.

Tuesday 9th, St. Nathy, a native of Co. Sligo, appointed Bishop of Achonry by St. Finian in 552.

Tuesday 9th, St. Felim, 6th century, patron of the diocese of Kilmore.

Wednesday 10th, St. Lawrence, seen as the cheerful giver since he was one of the seven deacons of the Roman Church in charge of the material needs of the faithful, martyred in Rome 258.

Thursday 11th is the Feast of St. Clare, 1193-1253, born at Assisi, followed the example of St. Francis, founded the Poor Clares.

Friday 12th, St. Jane Frances de Chantal, 1572-1641, mother of six children, widowed at 29.  Helped by St. Francis de Sales she founded several convents of the Visitation Sisters.

Friday 12th, St. Muredach, a disciple of St. Patrick and appointed by him as bishop of the Church of Killala.  Principal patron of that diocese.

Friday 12th, St. Attracta, received the nun’s veil from St. Patrick. Secondary patron of Achonry.

Friday 12th, St. Lelia, had a church at Killeely near Thomond Bridge, Limerick City.

Saturday 13th, St. Pontian, Pope in 231, exiled to Sardinia, resigned the papacy so that an active person might be elected, martyred through ill treatment in exile.

Saturday 13th, St. Hippolytus, writer and teacher, also exiled to Sardinia to suffer the same fate as St. Pontian.

Saturday 13th, St. Fachtna, Rosscarbery, West Cork, said to have been fostered by St. Ita.  Founder and principal patron of the diocese of Ross.

The Year of Mercy Pilgrimage concludes on Thursday, 11th, at 7.30 p.m.  Theme: Pray for the Living and the Dead.  Venue: Boher Cemetery.

The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday, 4th September.  A bus will depart from Clonfanlough at 9.30 a.m. and leave Shannonbridge at 9.45.  Enquiries to Teresa Rohan or Darran Finnerty.
Confessions from 12.30 p.m.  Anointing of the Sick, 2.30 p.m.  Mass and Eucharistic Blessing of the Sick with Benediction, 3.00 p.m., followed by the Rosary Procession.

Lough Derg.  Pilgrims may commence the Three Day Pilgrimage on any day until Saturday next, 13th August.  The cost is €70.00 to cover boat fare and accommodation.
