DUES UPDATE. Last year we gently suggested that an €80 per box return for the 6 Priests Dues envelopes annually would help our parish support the income of a priest (€20,400). I’m very grateful for the response which has seen our annual contribution rise from €12,633 in 2107 to €16,622 in 2018. So I am subsidised by a lot less from other parishes. Thank you

ARD CHARAIN Lenten Prayer with Adoration Wednesday Nights 7-8pm

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

The word Lent comes from the old English word ‘lencten’, meaning ‘springtime’. For those in the faith family it is a springtime for the soul. It recalls the forty days that Jesus spent in the wilderness, that bleak, barren strip (35 miles by 15), between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. He went there, not to escape from the world, but to be close to His Father as He prepared for His public ministry. For forty days He faced temptations that are as old as the human story- greed, power and the pursuit of the spectacular. He emerged victorious from the struggle, showing that temptation need not cause us to stumble, but, rather, help us to grow stronger. Lent provides us with an opportunity to look temptation in the eye, to ‘spring-clean’ the soul so that we can give up who we have been for the person we can become. It’s not about giving-up earthly things, but, rather, exchanging them for better things. ‘Lent is a time to allow a fresh taste of God’

 DAILY LENTEN PRAYER
Today Lord, I choose life,
I choose your love and the challenge
to live it and share it,
I choose hope, even in moments of darkness,
I choose faith, accepting you as Lord and God,
I choose to let go of some part of my burdens,
day by day handing them over to you,
I choose to take hold of your strength
and power ever more deeply in my life.
May this truly be for me a time of new life,
of change, challenge and growth.
May I come to Easter with a heart open
to dying with you and rising to your new life, day by day. Amen.
Gaeilge—During the month of March, we are embracing the Irish language in our liturgies. This week, we publish the Our father in Irish and the greeting.
 “The Lord be with you”
 “Go raibh an Tiarna libh”
And with your spirit”
Agus le do spiorad féin”
An Phaidir (Our Father)   Ár nAthair atá ar neamh, go naofar d’ainm, go dtaga do ríocht, go ndéantar do thoil ar an talamh mar a dhéantar ar neamh. Ár n-arán laethúil tabhair dúinn inniu agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha mar amhaithimidne dár bhféichiúna féin agus ná lig sinn i gcathú, ach sar sinn ó olc. Amen.
