Today Lord, I choose life,
I choose your love and the challenge
to live it and share it,
I choose hope, even in moments of darkness,
I choose faith, accepting you as Lord and God,
I choose to let go of some part of my burdens,
day by day handing them over to you,
I choose to take hold of your strength
and power ever more deeply in my life.
May this truly be for me a time of new lie,
of change, challenge and growth.
May I come to Easter with a heart open
to dying with you and rising to your new life, day by day. Amen.

EIGHTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
Words are powerful tools and dangerous weapons. They can inspire and they can destroy. They can be used in a manner that is awfully positive or positively awful. Words should never offend the dignity of another. We should guard against the terror of the untamed tongue. It is an interesting fact that we invariably judge others by their worst actions, while we tend to judge ourselves by our best intentions. Every time I judge someone else harshly, I reveal an unhealed part of myself. Jesus calls us, rather, to look into our own hearts first. If we do that honestly, we will notice ‘the plank in our own eye’. Then, whatever criticism we have to offer will be offered gently and out of love. Seventeenth century English Quaker, William Penn, after whom the American state of Pennsylvania was named, summed up the challenge succinctly: ‘They have a right to censure who have a heart to help’.
