 ADVENT PRAYER

Great Creator, May this Advent Season be a time of Waiting in Mindful Hope. Awaken my heart from all the ways I may have grown tired, distrustful and disappointed. Heal me of doubt so that my eyes may see the rich promises of the season. Open my consciousness to the ‘New Heaven and the New Earth’ that is your vision for humankind. May I be a steward of the New Creation and be a light-bearer of good news. May this Advent be a Homecoming Journey, a discovery of the true self, and a rejection of all that is false and deceptive. I surrender myself to you, I surrender my heart that it may be your new Bethlehem, May it be done unto me according to your word Amen
THE BOOK OF LUKE IN THE BIBLE   Beginning December 1st, daily read a chapter of the 24 chapters.  On Christmas Eve, you will have read the whole account of Jesus’s life and wake up on Christmas morning knowing Who and Why we celebrate Christmas.

 FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Waiting is learning’
The bleak mid-winter heralds the arrival of a new Church Year. As we light the first purple candle on the Advent wreath we embark once again on a journey that will lead us to the manger at Bethlehem. At Christmas we will celebrate God’s gift to the world. During Advent we look forward to that gift. It’s a season for waiting and reflecting. Our world is full of waiting from the rising of the sun to its’ setting; waiting for that phone call, waiting for the doctor, waiting in traffic, waiting for the plane. ‘Waiting is learning’, according to the late Dutch theologian Henri Nouwen, ‘the longer we wait the more we learn about Him for whom we are waiting’. May we learn in our waiting, and when we stand before the manger on Christmas morning may we be surprised yet again, to discover that He is the One who has been waiting for us all along

 Advent Safeguarding Me ssage 2019
Bp. Francis Duffy writes…”Arising from the preparations for our Diocesan Assembly 2020 it is very clear that ‘family’ is a central concern for people. Advent is a time of preparation to celebrate the beginnings of a
special family, ‘the Holy Family’ of Mary and Joseph and Jesus. Special, as it is the place
where the Son of God came among us. Special also, because it is like any other family with
its mixtures of joys and sorrows, happiness and burdens. As a local Church we work towards having safe environments for children in our activities. Places where parents can be
reassured their children will be safe, treated with respect and valued. Many are involved at
parish and diocesan level to maintain these standards. I thank you for your vigilance and
your commitment to making our Church as safe as possible for children.
I encourage anyone with concerns regarding the safety of children or anyone who suffered in the past to contact our Designated Liaison Person, Sean Leydon (087-7431649) or our
Deputy Designated Liaison Person, Róisín O’Doherty (087-7057516).
