BAMBINELLI SUNDAY This Year we will celebrate ‘Bambinelli Sunday’ at 10:30 Clonfanlough Mass on the Third Sunday of Advent (December 15th) All children and families are invited to bring the baby Jesus figure from their homes to be blessed. SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
‘Prepare the way of the Lord’
John the Baptist takes centre stage again. He is the saint of Advent. Rugged, steadfast, fearless, charismatic, humble, the greatest of the prophets, his voice thunders from the wilderness and down the ages: ‘prepare the way of the Lord’. It was in the silence of the barren and bleak wilderness that John found enlightenment as he came face to face with himself and his Creator. There he discovered that silence is not the absence of something but the presence of everything. We can learn from John by cultivating stillness in our lives during this special season. In the quiet space we will come to appreciate more deeply that Advent is not so much about preparing for Christmas, as it is about preparing for Christ. ‘Stillness reveals the secrets of eternity’. (Lao Tzu).

Arising from the preparations for our Diocesan Assembly 2020 it is very clear that ‘family’ is a central concern for people. Advent is a time of preparation to celebrate the beginnings of a special family, ‘the Holy Family’ of Mary and Joseph and Jesus. Special, as it is the place where the Son of God came among us. Special also, because it is like any other family with its mixtures of joys and sorrows, happiness and burdens. As a local Church we work towards having safe environments for children in our activities. Places where parents can be reassured their children will be safe, treated with respect and valued. Many are involved at parish and diocesan level to maintain these standards. I thank you for your vigilance and your commitment to making our Church as safe as possible for children.
I encourage anyone with concerns regarding the safety of children or anyone who suffered in the past to contact our Designated Liaison Person, Sean Leydon (087-7431649) Deputy Designated Liaison Person, Róisín O’Doherty (087-7057516).
