Friday 14th February : is the Feast of St. Valentine. Over commercialised, sensationalised and romanticised it has lost it’s rich and beautiful meaning. It is the Feast of Love, the Joy of Love. It is the Feast of the Heart. Hearts transformed and hearts broken by love: the love of parents and children, husbands and wives, of sisters and brothers , friends and family. It is the Feast of Love—The many faces that bless us with the Smile of Love and show us the Face of God. “To love another person is to see the Face of God” Les Miserables.

WORDS OF THE WISE Try not to become  a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value. (Albert Einstein)/ Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending (Carl Bard) / There are two way of meeting difficulties: you alter the difficulties, or you alter yourself to meet them (Phyllis Bottome)/ The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me. (Ayn Rand)/ A man is not old until regrets start taking place of dreams (John Barrymore)

 FIFTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR
‘You are the salt of the earth; you are the light of the world’
Jesus uses the everyday images of light and salt in today’s extract from the Sermon on the Mount. Light guides and warns. The Christian should be a light in the world, a signpost to Christ, and have the courage to warn a friend who may be taking the wrong path. Salt preserves, draws-out, provides flavour, causes thirst, and heals even when it stings. The Christian, likewise, should be as the salt of the earth, preserving and defending noble values; drawing-out the best from others; adding the flavour of joy to our troubled world; leading others to thirst for the living water that comes through the Scriptures and the Sacraments, and bringing healing always to those who hurt. These are ordinary things, but the Sermon on the Mount teaches us, above all, that the ordinary is special.
PARISH CATECHISTS s we approach the Diocesan Assembly (May 9/10th) it is a time of change. Some changes involve reduction of Masses (declining attendance & ageing/reducing clergy) but one of the most positive aspects has been the development of the role of Catechists. Our parish was fortunate to have two (Seamus Grennan RIP) and Ms. Dympna Fitzpatrick who joined the diocesan Class of 32 Catechists. Our cluster of St. Ciaran has more catechists– who it is envisaged will liaise with parents and schools especially for Sacraments as well as leading special times of prayer. We shall be seeing more of Catechists in future-So, watch this space. !!
