FEAST OF THE BLESSED TRINITY

‘Glóir don Athair agus don Mhac agus don Spiorad Naomh’

Here we are at the heart of the mystery of our God. The human tongue can never speak the final word about God; the human mind can never fully understand the mystery of the Trinity. ‘The man who tries to understand it fully will lose his mind, but the one who would deny the Trinity will lose her soul’. Many people have used images through the ages to help us to ponder the mystery. St. Ignatius of Loyola spoke of three distinct notes being played together to form one harmonious chord. Theologian Frank Sheed used the image of water, which can manifest itself as rain, ice or steam. St. Patrick pointed to the shamrock with its’ three shoots emerging from a single stem. We will never fully understand the arithmetic of heaven, but suffice it to say the following: the Father is the Creator and source of all being; the Son is the face of the Creator; the Spirit is the breath of the Creator. The Father works for us; the Son works among us; the Spirit works within us. When we make the Sign of the Cross, we cut through the doctrine and make real our relationship with the Three Persons. Through that profound gesture, we place ourselves in their gaze. We touch the forehead as we ask the Father to make our thoughts noble; we touch the breast as we ask the Son to make our hearts pure; we touch both shoulders as we ask the Holy Spirit to make the work of our hands fruitful and worthwhile. Is leor é sin

Sacred Heart Novena 2021 (3rd June to 11th June)  “Jesus seeks a Home in our hearts”

(Novena leaflets available in the Church).

How to pray this Novena. Take your time over the words you read. Linger over a word or a phrase. Repeat it aloud or in silence. Let it rest in your mind and heart. Think about its meaning. Share your thoughts and feelings with Jesus. Wait quietly to see what comes into your mind and heart. Don’t worry if nothing seems to be happening. People who know each other well don’t need many words. Blessed John Sullivan tells us that God is delighted to see us, even if we don’t know what to say. God has our best interests at heart. Novena Prayer: Lord Jesus, you have said, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you”. I come to you in faith and trust, in love and hope. Let me know your closeness to me and your care for me and for all who are dear to me. My intention for this Novena is dear to me and I know that what is important to me is important to you. Hear my prayer (mention your intention); grant what I ask, and may I always trust that in all that happens in life, you will be close to me as my friend, guide and saviour. And so, Most sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

“The divine love of the Eternal Word has become incarnate in the human love of Christ, has fashioned itself a place in history and cast itself for an unmistakable role in the sinful world; and there by it has guaranteed that love, and not righteous anger, is God’s first and last message to the world”. (Karl Rahner SJ)

A Leaving Cert Students Prayer

Loving God I know that you are with me in every moment of my life.  You constantly care for me and walk with me in every step I take.

As I prepare for my exams, there are times when

I'm afraid, when I feel alone, when I worry about what lies ahead. In those times help me to remember your love and the love of those around me. Give me the strength to let go of my worries and to trust in you. so that I can face each day with hope and happiness.

As I study, calm my heart that I may feel your peace. Calm my mind that my thoughts may be cleare. Help me to make the most of my time and to work to the  best of my ability.

As I go onto new things in life, guide and direct me that I may be the person you created me to be. Bless me, God, today and tomorrow, and bless my  family and friends. Keep each of us safe and well, now and always. Amen

PENTECOST SUNDAY

‘Receive the Holy Spirit’

In the year 1873 Dr. Ludwig Zamenhof, a Jew living in Russian Poland endeavoured to create a new international language, ‘Esperanto’, a word meaning ‘one who hopes’, to help break down barriers and increase understanding between ethnic groups. While his vision didn’t take root as he hoped, it is estimated that about two million people worldwide do speak the language today. On this Pentecost Day, as we celebrate the ‘Birthday of our Church’ we recall how the Holy Spirit brought and continues to offer a universal language to the human family, an internal language that reveals itself in what we call the fruits of the Spirit. Whenever we promote love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness or self-control, we speak the language of the Spirit, further the mission of the Church and contribute to the renewal of the face of the earth. ‘Let us too ask for the grace of being able to hear what the Spirit says to our Church, to our community, to our parish, to our family and for the grace to learn the language of the Holy Spirit’. (Pope Francis).

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Loving Father of Jesus; Please give to us in this troubled time your gentle wisdom and insight, and so fill our hearts and minds with the warmth and light of Pentecost. Help us each day to understand the wonder and beauty of the Holy Spirit of Jesus, that same Spirit that raised Jesus from the tomb of death. Help us to understand that this power is living and breathing in us today. Help us to share Your fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control with all. Come Holy Spirit, Come and kindle in us the fire of Your love.

Did you Know? Pentecost, also known as Whit Sunday or Whitsunday, is observed on the seventh Sunday after Easter and 10 days after Ascension. The name comes from the Greek word "pentekoste" which means fiftieth as Pentecost Sunday takes place on the 50th day of Easter. As the date is based on Easter, this day is a moveable feast. The earliest day that Pentecost Sunday can fall is May 10th (as in 1818) and the latest possible date is June 13th (next in 2038). It marks the end of the Easter cycle, that began 90 days ago with Ash Wednesday at the start of Lent.
