 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

‘I am the vine you are the branches’
The image of the vine and the branches is one of the fundamental images of the New Testament. Jesus uses this image as He addresses His disciples in the Upper Room on the night before He died. It reminds us of a truth which we have all re-discovered in a striking way during the past year: everything is interconnected. My interest is linked to everyone else’s. We are all leaves on different branches of the same vine. For the family of believers the vine is Christ. At the centre of Christianity, there is a person. Stay close to Him and all things are possible. Lose Him and die. The image teaches us also that the vine needs the branches. The mission of Christ is our mission now. We are to be His hands, feet, ears, eyes and tongue. This is a profound
and privileged task which should cause us to ask ourselves a simple question every day. Does the example of our lives turn the thoughts of others to God?

CLONFERT MAY NOVENA Starts Saturday 1st May @ 8p.m., Sunday May 2nd at 10:30am Church open for private prayer from 7am to 11pm each day. Door closed from  7:45pm to 8:45pm each weekday for mass at 8p.m. with no congregation. Livestreamed on  www.churchservices.tv/clonfert

OUR LADY OF CLONFERT

I come to you, as one of your children, who will never forget the importance of a woman like you. I come because I believe in you. I come to say thanks for the past and the present and ask you to bless me in the future. You know me, you know how I live and you know my needs. Please help me especially when I need you most. I have problems worries and anxieties the same as everyone else - help me to cope. So often I would just love to give up when life hurts me and people betray me, but give me the courage never to lose heart. Bless my family, my life and my friends. Help me, no matter what happens to me in

life, to believe, to trust and to hope.

Our Lady of Clonfert, pray for us.

MENTAL HEALTH IRELAND FUNDRAISER thank you!  Dympna Fitzpatrick would like to acknowledge with gratitude the many people who contributed to her birthday fundraiser for Mental Health Ireland. .

 Bishop Francis writes

"The Council of priests met on April 30th to consider the Government's announcement that public worship may resume with restrictions from 10th May 2021.

From 10th May, Mass resumes with a congregation of no more than 50, respecting 2 metre social distancing.

Weddings may  have up to 50 guests and Funerals up to 50 mourners. There is

no clarification yet on the "pod" system that operated for larger churches.

The Government stated "It is advised that other religious ceremonies such as Communions and Confirmations should not take place at this time".

In view of this advice all Confirmation ceremonies are deferred until the 12th June, at the earliest,  subject to Government advice. First Holy Communion ceremonies are deferred until September (note: locally it is decided that Clonmacnois NS First Communion deferred to May 2022).

In consulting with the school and parish about the Confirmation ceremony it is

important to state that the date agreed may be subject to change and will  depend on public health advice at that time. Additional advice on the resumption of public worship will be issued shortly"Francis Duffy

A Rosary for the World : The month of May is the month of Our Lady, Mary Our Mother. Pope Francis has asked that this year , the month of May will be dedicated as a “marathon of prayer”; he askes us to pray for an end to the pandemic which has affected the family of our world for more than a year. Pope Francis wants to involve all the Shrines to Our Lady throughout the world In the light of the scripture; “Prayer by the Church was fervently made to God” Acts 12:5 All people of faith are asked to join in this rosary of the world in all the languages of the world. As well as the prayer of the Rosary, each day is characterized by a prayer intention for the various categories of people most affected by the pain of this pandemic for instance: those who have not been able to say goodbye to their loved one……. all health care workers…….. for the poor……. and so on. The World Rosary will take place in Knock on the 10th May at 5pm. Irish Time (6p.m. in Rome). It will be streamed live on the Knock Shrine Website, on the Knock Shrine Facebook page and the Vatican News Channel. Find out more at www.knockshrine.ie/news.

The intention of that day (May 10th) is for all those who live with disability or underlying conditions. Each Shrine is called to promote as much as possible the participation of the faithful, so that everyone can devote a moment to daily prayer, in the car, on the street, and thanks to communication technologies, with the smartphone, requesting the end of the pandemic and the resumption of social and work activities. Pope Francis will open and close the prayer, along with the faithful around the world on May 1st. On this occasion , he will bless special Rosaries used particularly for this event which then be sent to thirty Shrines directly involved including Knock.

We fly to thy protection, O Holy Mother of God. Despise not our petitions in our necessities, But deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen
