TWENTY SIXTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

‘‘Increase our faith’

Walter Ciszek, a Polish Jesuit priest spent fifteen years in forced labour camps in Siberia. When asked what kept him going during those dark days he replied: ‘it was not I who kept the faith; it was the faith that kept me’. Faith is not always a pleasant, fulfilling experience. It is often just seeing in the dark, but then it is only in the darkness that you can see the stars. As the great Bengali poet and novelist Tagore wrote so eloquently: ‘Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark’. Central to faith is patience. To believe is to plod on, but without faith, life loses its meaning. It is a trust, then, rather than a certainty, a journey rather than an arrival. It’s not the belief that God will do what you want. It’s the belief that God will do what is right. With the disciples in today’s Gospel we pray: increase our faith

This Week We Offer A Special Prayer For... Those Experiencing Financial Distress

O Dear Lord, In this time of uncertainty, Be my rock in a world built on sand; Be my oasis of grace and peace in a world filled with tension and turmoil; Help me to carry my cross gracefully, as you did in Your Passion; Help me to follow Your beam of light in the midst of this darkness; Help me to see Your will in all things And show others Your comfort and strength. Keep me calm when tempers flare up; Keep me sane in a crazy world; Keep me focused on the houses in Heaven rather than the houses of cards collapsing around me; Keep my eyes focused on the prize of Heaven and not lose hope in You in this world or in the world to come; Make me compassionate in dealing with others; Let me see my travails as carrying my cross and sharing in Your Passion, for the love of You and for the salvation of souls, including mine. And may all my difficulties be ultimately for my good and Your glory.  Amen.
