PRAYER TO ST PATRICK O God, you sent your blessed servant St Patrick to teach and save the people of his home and place. You gave our patron a loving heart like your own. You filled him with great faith and a burning desire to work hard for your kingdom. Please listen when he prays for us, his sons and daughters. Grant to us, through his intercession, a lively faith, a firm hope and a strong will to build your kingdom. We pray this through Christ our Lord, Amen

St. Patrick’s Day

Points to Ponder Its not an easy time to be Catholic, but I wonder has it ever, for even in those times when the church seemed all-pervasive, there were many within and without who were uncomfortable and struggled deeply. Perhaps today its actually easier to  be Catholic because there’s no hiding, no pretending, no going along with the flow. Being Catholic in Ireland means that we are conscious of carrying a different cross to that of any previous generation. We carry not pride in the faith of our ancestors which brought them through difficult times, times of persecution, poverty and oppression, but rather we bear the burden of guilt, the awareness of sins of the past. The faith was preached in this land by a man who acutely conscious of his own sinfulness, and not just in a general sense. Patrick’s mission was questioned and in fact, jeopardised by an old friend, possibly a confessor, who revealed some wrongdoing of Patrick’s to those who were to send him on a mission to Ireland. We don’t know what that sin was, but we do know that Patrick regarded it as a grave sin, which he had left behind him in the past and been reconciled. We nearly didn’t have Patrick at all. Out faith was brought to us by a sinner who became a saint. Our faith was handed on to us by sinners, who may well have become saints. We, sinners, hand on that faith to others, and hopefully we too will become saints, and our sins and those of our forebears will not impede the mission with which we have been entrusted. - Fr. John Cummins

FEAST DAYS FOR COMING WEEK

Mar. 17 th Saint Patrick’s Day What distinguishes Patrick, our national patron saint, is the durability of his efforts. When one considers the state of Ireland when he began his mission work and how the seeds he planted continued to grow and flourish, one can only admire the kind of man Patrick must have been. The holiness of a person is known only by the fruits of his or her works

We remember and pray for all emigrants and for all who have Irish roots who live and work in various parts of the world. May St. Patrick bless and protect them.

RENOVATING CLONFANLOUGH CHURCH

By now a small group of Locals have had 2 meetings and reviewed the work needed prior to painting & decoration the interior.  In summary the main issues needed to be addressed are as follows.

-Specific construct defect – water ingress

- the condition of the small flat roof at side porch junctions with the adjacent walls.

-Localized roof defects arising from missing/cracked slates/ and inadequate rainwater discharge. To audit  the  roof fixings as it were.

-Condensation accumulation on the main windows.

We invite trades people with skillsets in these areas to make contact before March 22nd. The work involved is by its nature subtle and specialist and also dangerous due to the heights involved.. Contact via 086 8319500

In ainm an Athar agus an Mhic agus an Spioraid Naoimh. Amen.

Grásta ár dTiarna Íosa Críost agus grá Dé agus cumann an Spioraid Naoimh libh go léir.

Agus le do spiorad féin.

AN PHAIDIR ar nAthair atá ar neamh,

go naofar d’ainm,

go dtaga do ríocht,

go ndéantar do thoil ar an talamh,

mar a dhéantar ar neamh.

Ár n-arán laethúil tabhair dúinn inniu,

agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha,

mar a mhaithimidne dár bhféichiúna féin,

agus ná lig sinn i gcathú,

ach saor sinn ó olc.

Hail, glorious St. Patrick, dear saint of our isle,

On us thy poor children bestow a sweet smile;  And now thou art high in the mansions above,

On Erin's green valleys look down in thy love.

On Erin's green valleys, on Erin's green valleys,  On Erin's green valleys look down in thy love.

-Hail, glorious St. Patrick, thy words were once strong  Against Satan's wiles and an infidel throng;

Not less is thy might where in Heaven thou art;  Oh, come to our aid, in our battle take part!

-Ever bless and defend the sweet land of our birth, Where the shamrock still blooms as when thou were on earth, And our hearts shall yet burn, wherever we roam, For God and St. Patrick, and our native home.

Céad míle fáilte romhat, a Íosa, a Íosa

Ag Críost an Síol, ag Críost an Fómhar Ín iothlann Dé go dtugtar sinn. Ag Críost an mhuir, ag Críost an t-iasc, I lionta Dé go gcastar sinn

-Ó fhás go haois, is ó aois go bás Do dhá láimh a Chríost anall tharainn. Ó bhás go críoch, ní críoch ach athfhás, I bParrthas na nGrást go rabhaimid.

Christ Be Beside Me

Christ be beside me, Christ be before me,  Christ be behind me, King of my heart..  Christ be within me, Christ be below me,.   Christ be above me, never to part..  Christ on my right hand, Christ on my left hand,.   Christ all around me, shield in the strife..  Christ in my sleeping, Christ in my sitting,   Christ in my rising, Light of my life. Christ be in all hearts thinking about me Christ be on all tongues telling of me..  Christ be the vision in eyes that see me, In ears that hear me, Christ ever be.
