SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

 DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY ‘

Doubt no longer but believe’ The story of Thomas in today’s gospel reminds us that the journey to Easter faith was difficult even for the first disciples of Jesus. He doubted. Doubt is not the enemy of faith, but rather its twin sister. It is actually the beginning of wisdom. ‘There lives more faith in honest doubt, believe me, than in half the creeds’, according to celebrated English poet of the nineteenth century, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and the renowned French philosopher of the twelfth century Peter Abelard offered a similar insightful reflection: ‘It is by doubting that we come to investigate and by investigating that we recognise the truth’. Healthy questioning leads to a healthy faith, a faith that does not provide all the answers, but which does provide us with enough light to live with the darkness; enough joy to live with the sorrow; enough certainty to live with the doubts. ‘One who does not ask questions’ according to Pope Francis ‘cannot progress either in knowledge or in faith’. When Thomas finally made the journey from doubt to faith his commitment was total and to the end. As we reflect on his honest struggle, we might dare to make our own the daily prayer of Auschwitz survivor, Elie Wiesel: ‘I pray to the God within me that He will give me the strength to ask Him the right questions’.

This is the Sunday of Mercy, Divine Mercy , all Mercy is Divine.  In the evening of the same day, doors were closed and the Risen Jesus stood among friends who had                       denied and deserted Him and simply said “Peace be with you”  No need of judgement, punishment, disappointment or reprimand—simply “Peace be with you”.  This is Mercy—”This is Divine Mercy”.

Where the world is merciless……...be God’s mercy

Where the world is hopeless……..be God’s hope.

Where the world is wounded ……...be God’s healing.

Where the world is weeping……...be God’s song.

Where the world is crumbling ……..be God’s rock

If you want the world to change, be God’s love,

God has greater plans for you.  Be God’s love

Divine Mercy 3 O’Clock Prayer

You expired, O Jesus,  but the source of life gushed forth for souls  and an ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.  O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy,  envelop the whole world  and empty Yourself out upon us. O Blood and Water,  which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus  as a fount of mercy for us,

I trust in You. Amen.

EASTER WATER: The Easter Water, blessed at the Easter Vigil, is now available for the parishioners to take to their homes, as is customary. You will need to bring along your own container and fill it from the large container at the top  of the Church. I don’t have any small bottles left but since Easter 2020 we have distributed 1200 50ml  plastic (!) bottles so they’re out there!

Trócaire The hardest part of the Trócaire Lenten Campaign is getting the Trócaire Box from the kitchen table to the church. We ask for your help in returning all Trócaire Boxes and offerings as soon as possible and we thank all those who have done so already. Trócaire is the overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland. Thank you.

CEMETERY—I found myself in the week after Easter disposing properly some Christmas Holly Wreaths!  I’m grateful to the many people who cast neighbourly eyes around plots and remove dumped materials or the situation would be worse. Please be mindful of how important it is to be respectful of the only space on God’s earth that we will occupy and share together.

Prayer to St. Thomas the Apostle Dear St. Thomas, You were known as the doubter, but through your faith and belief in the Lord, you became one of the greatest apostles. Teach us to have the courage and determination to always question and seek truth, and to never lose faith in the love of our Lord. We ask for your intercession and guidance as we strive to live our lives in the example of Jesus. Help us to be strong in our beliefs, to never waiver in the face of adversity, and to always stand up for what is right and just. We pray for the grace and strength to follow in your footsteps, to be steadfast in our faith, and to always be witnesses to the love of our Lord. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us pray. O God, Who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

This Week We Offer A Special Prayer For Farmers Eternal Father, maker of heaven and earth, we bless you and give you glory. Bless this seed, and make it fruitful. Look upon our work this season, and grant that the seeds we plant will produce plentiful crops, providing work and food for many. In your love, give us favourable weather throughout this growing season. Make us truly grateful for all our gifts, and willing to share our goods and talents with others, especially those without adequate food. All praise and glory are yours, Almighty Father, through your son Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever & ever AMEN
