PALM SUNDAY

‘Blessed is He who comes in the

name of the Lord’

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. The word holy means ‘set-apart’. Holy Week, ‘an tSeachtain Mhór’, is indeed set apart from all other weeks on the Church’s calendar. It brings us to the centre of who we are. It takes us to the heart of our faith. On Holy Thursday we will give thanks for the incomparable gifts of the Eucharist and priesthood. On Good Friday we will raise the Cross high and salute the ‘triumph of failure’ which was the ‘triumph of love’. On Holy Saturday night we will light the Paschal Candle and proclaim joyfully that the Lord is risen, that we are going somewhere and the grave will never be our final address. As we journey through the week may our faith be renewed and our hope strengthened.

By His cross and resurrection He has set us free.

HOLY WEEK PRAYER Loving Father, we prepare to celebrate your love during Holy Week. We thank Jesus for giving us his Body and Blood at the Last Supper. We thank him for dying on the Cross to save us. Help us to become more like Jesus in our love for you and one another. Fill our hearts and homes with your peace and joy as we celebrate His resurrection this Easter. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

PALM SUNDAY

We want the war horse.

Jesus rides a donkey.

We want the eagle.

The Holy Spirit descends as a dove.

We want to take up swords.

Jesus takes up a cross.

We want the roaring lion.

God comes as a slaughtered lamb.

We keep trying to arm God.

God keeps trying to disarm us. (H/T Rev Ben Cremer

In the book, Four Spirits, by Sara Jeter Naslun, Darl and Stella are talking: “Do you know the average altitude for the flight of robins?” he asked. A spurt of laughter flew from between Stella’s lips…”I don’t have the foggiest idea,” she said. “About thirty inches.”

“What a waste!” she said. “To have the gift of flight and to fly so low.”

“So let us spread before his feet, not garments or soulless olive branches, which delight the eye for a few hours and then wither, but ourselves, clothed in his grace, or rather, clothed completely in him.” -St. Andrew of Crete
