It is true that the Church will always need great orators, gifted teachers and heroic saints to inspire the multitudes and carry out its mission, but it will also need ordinary folk who live graciously, love tenderly and serve generously away from the spotlight, those who welcome the stranger and offer generous hospitality in their homes. The world actually turns on the small and seemingly insignificant acts of ordinary people. It is touching that a simple act of kindness is the image chosen by Jesus in this extract from His final instruction to His disciples. The giving of a cup of cold water in His name will not go unnoticed or unrewarded. Nothing escapes His attention and all service ranks the same with Him. There is a significance to the insignificant. ‘Be great in little things(St. Francis Xavier).

The name of the young boy? Cassius Clay, who later became the legendary Muhammad Al

THE SEVEN MISCHIEVOUS MISSES   In  an era when ‘truth’ is compromised by propaganda, lies and half truths - beware of the seven ‘Misses’ responsible for most of our troubles: Miss Information, Miss Quotation, Miss Representation, Miss Interpretation, Miss Construction, Miss Conception, Miss Understanding. Don’t listen to them. (William J. H. Boetcker

NOVENA PRAYER TO ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE Lord Jesus, Saint Thomas doubted Your resurrection until he touched Your wounds. After Pentecost, You called him to become a missionary in India but he doubted again and said no. He changed his mind only after being taken into slavery by a merchant who happened to be going to India and he began the work You had called him to do. As the Patron Saint against Doubt, I ask him to pray for me when I question the direction in which You are leading me. Forgive me for mistrusting You, Lord, and help me to grow from the experience. Once he was cured of his doubt, You freed him. Saint Thomas, pray for me.

PETER’S PENCE:  The annual Peter’s Pence  collection is due at this time. This collection is a contribution to the Pope’s personal charities.  Peter’s Pence is the name given to the financial support offered by the faithful to the Holy Father as a sign of their sharing in the concern of the Successor of    Peter (Pope Francis currently) for the many different needs of the            Universal Church and for the relief  of those most in need.

Prayer for Safe Travels Lord I go with you, I am safe with you. I do not travel alone, For your hand is upon me, Your protection is divine. Besides, in front and behind You encircle my life, For I am yours, and you are mine
