10th SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

‘It is the end of Satan’

The teaching of the Church, based on the Scriptures, leaves us in no doubt as to the existence of the Devil and the demonic realm. The Church further counsels against two equal and opposite errors in this regard. One is to disbelieve in his existence. The other is to believe and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in him. Pope Francis often refers to Satan as the ‘Father of Lies’, the one who sows seeds of division and disunity, confusion and conflict, the one who attacks us at our most vulnerable moments. In His earthly ministry Jesus Himself came face to face with the ‘Powers of Darkness’. Satan it is who constantly tries to obstruct His plans to bring about the reign of the Kingdom. In the end, goodness trumps evil and it always will. There is only one God and Satan cannot go beyond the limits set by God. In the meantime, the struggle goes on. As children of the light, we are warriors on the frontline of this spiritual battle, which requires the utmost diligence. It is highly significant that the Lord’s model prayer concludes with the petition: ‘deliver us from the Evil One

FEAST DAYS

June 11th St Barnabas Barnabas was closely associated with St Paul and with Paul set up a Christian community at Antioch (Greece) It was at Antioch that the followers of Jesus were first called Christians.

June 13th St Anthony of Padua (1159- 1231) St Anthony, a Franciscan, was recognized as a great man of prayer and a great scripture and theology scholar

A MISSIONARY GROUP FROM BETHLEHEM, , The Holy Land will be visiting our Parish on the 22nd and 23rd of June to briefly talk about the Holy Land and  to sell religious articles ( Crucifixes , Rosary Beads and Plaques ) made out of olive wood in Bethlehem to help and support the poor Christians families , any help you could give them it will be highly appreciated .

St. Anthony of Padua Prayer Almighty God, merciful Father. You have chosen St. Anthony as an outstanding preacher of the Gospel and a messenger of peace. Through his intercession hear our prayers. Sanctify every family, help its members to grow in faith and strengthen the bonds of unity, peace and serenity. Bless the children and protect the young. Sustain us in all our daily labours with your unending love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Unfailing Prayer to St. Anthony Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for his creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore of you to obtain for me (request). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen

 Examination Time

“ Having moved into grandmother mode I’m out of step with the parents of children sitting exams in the month of June.  One June I watched an elegant grandmother sitting in a café waiting for her granddaughters. They arrived wearing green school uniforms and looks of exam weariness. She stood up and enfolded them in large hugs and ordered hot chocolates  with marshmallows on top.We can do very little as parents as grandparents: we cannot live their lives for them; we can’t expect them to be like us; all  that matters is for them to be themselves and to like  themselves. But we can offer love and support and that’s all  that matters”. Anne Thurston

EXAMINATIONS - Best wishes& blessings to all students who are doing examinations at this time

PRAYER BEFORE AN EXAMINATIION:

Dear Lord, as I take this exam,  I thank you that my value    is not based on my performance, but on your great love for me. Come into my heart so that we can walk through this time together. Help me, not only with this test, but the many tests of life that are sure to come my way. As I take this exam, bring back to my mind everything I studied and be gracious with what I have overlooked. Help me to remain focussed and calm, confident in the facts and in my ability, and firm in the knowledge that no matter what happens today you are there with me.  Amen.

  Cemetery Masses

-Fri 2nd August 7pm in Mullinakill (Glebe)

-Sat August 3rd 7pm in Clonmacnois Cemetery

-Friday August 16th @7pm in Cloniffeen

We are fortunate to have the help of  an SES group in Clonmacnois Cemetery, but I would gently appeal to, those who have loved ones interred in the cemeteries to bring home any rubbish, dead flowers, broken wreathes and not to pile them up inside the walls or worse over the wall, right in the path of farm machinery and animals.  It only takes a moment, a bag and some thought to bring things away.
