The Alone organization have a full page advert in The Irish Catholic this week. It contains a number of facts and one that caught my eye went like this –

“I still remember that Sunday night, April 17th 1949 at midnight the 26 Counties left the British Commonwealth and became The Irish Republic”.

After watching Louise get through to the next round of You’re a Star last Sunday on RTE 1 @ 6.30 pm my sister Doc was remembering a series of Shannonbridge Notes that appeared weekly in The Midland Tribune around 1948 to 1952 that were very entertaining as they were mainly fictional and had reports on hockey, cricket and a variety of topics. The files for this newspaper have been placed on computer by Independent Newspapers under a trade name of Irish Media and Print. Need some more information on this.

Louise was in Shannonbridge today after visiting a number of schools. She had to sing in each school and had to pack it in early as she feared for her voice. She is appearing on ‘You’re a Star’ again on next Sunday evening at 6.30pm.Readers abroad can look at her performance last Sunday on her website www.louisekilleen.com or on the www.rte.ie site under programmes. It is the viewers that vote after 7.30pm and if you wish to vote next Sunday then “vote Louise 53600” which is her code. You can watch the program live via the www.rte.ie website. Joe Coleman was watching it in Leeds last week.

The Reynolds pet food factory in Edgewardstown was severely damaged by fire at the weekend C+D Foods have over 500 people employed in that area and hopefully they will have it up and running again soon.

The Angelus at 12.00 brought good news to Fergal and Eilis McEvoy and their daughter Leah when Eilis gave birth to a baby boy that weighed in at just under 6 Lbs. Well done girl.

On babies Geraldine Brennan was telling us that Michelle’s baby mentioned recently is spelled Ava. And I had run it by the ABC spell check.

Weather has been fine and overcast this past few days with temperatures of 10C / 50F.

River level is at 4 Metres and the flood is out on the Callows. The swans have moved in for the fresher feed.
